Vertical Lines when mixing Layers

I used to use duplicate layers often, when darkening or lightening an image, using multiply or screen layer mixing mode. However, now when I use mutiply, I usually get thin, white, vertical lines in my photos. This is not acceptable. Anyone know why it does this, or more importantly, how to make it stop?
--Thank You!

Re: Vertical Lines when mixing Layers

It is using your multiply blendmode and reducing the opacity at a guess you may be using ps7 and os vista (which i believe is the problem) there is a patch available

here is a link to a previous post, with a link to the patch ( which i couldnt get to work but i think that is a different problem )

Re: Vertical Lines when mixing Layers

palms1, you are exactly right! It is when changing the opacity of the top layer that I get vertical white lines. I am using PS7, but with Windows xp mc, not Vista. Got the patch and am anxious to try it. Many, many thanks!

Re: Vertical Lines when mixing Layers

I use PS7 and that problem exists for me as well with XP. The only way I have found around it is to leave the opacity on the multiply layer at 100%, and lower the opacity on the original layer instead.

Out of interest please let us know if the patch works for you
my way round it, is to use the eraser at a low opacity to reduce the effect of the layer at 100% but it dosent always work ! ! ! !
