| Re: duplicate image without copy name is on the pr If I understood you correctly, you just have to hold down the [Alt]/[Opt] key while selecting "Image"-"Duplicate". This will suppress the dialog box. |

| Re: duplicate image without copy name is on the pr In any application or operating system you can not have 2 files with the same identical name. If your intent is to modify the duplicate so that you can preserve the original file, the way to proceed is to modify the original and at the end of the action do a File>Save As. Then you can save the file with the exact same name but in a different folder / location or you can save the file in the same location as the orig but change the file name. Regards, Murray |

I do not have that much knowledge about creating actions to know if an action can be created that allows one to "REPLACE" the original file, like I do sometimes when it seems necessary for some other reason than using an action. Maybe someone who is familiar with creating actions can figure this out for us. Danny? |

| Re: duplicate image without copy name is on the pr Ajidehak I put together this Javascript to duplicate the active document and give it the same name (no 'copy') It can be called in Actions, or Batch with Action. Put it in '~Photoshop/Presets/Scripts' and restart Photoshop. Hope this helps. --Shift Studio |

The script I made duplicates the entire photoshop document so you now have two documents open with the exact same name. No 'copy' anywhere. It doesn't do any saving. If you do save, you'll need to save to another folder or change the name or format. ie. apple.psd & apple.tif. That is not what you want? --shift studio |

| Re: duplicate image without copy name is on the pr Duplicate your original folder. Run your action on images in the DUPLICATED folder and set destination to "SAVE AND CLOSE". This way the word "copy" will only be in the title of your FOLDER. |

| Re: duplicate image without copy name is on the pr This thread is getting way, way more complicated than it ever needed to be, plus Mistermonday came up with the simplest, most logical solution quite a while back - save the file in a new folder. The horse is already dead, stop beating it. |

| Re: duplicate image without copy name is on the pr from what i can understand from reading your posts, you want to duplicate the image in photoshop without the word (copy) on the duplicate. I made a test action to do this but it keeps the same name on every photo. if there is someone here that is proficient in using variables maybe they can show you how to replace the name with the original photo using a variable. All i did was start recording an action went to image duplicate image when the file name box comes up I delete the word copy, leaving the original name. Only problem is when you run the action on another photo it keeps the name that was recorded in the action, ie, (original name (orange)) (duplicate name (orange)), new photo run action (original name (apple)) (duplicate name(orange)). This could probably be fixed with the use of a variable, but i haven't worked with them and don't know exactly how to use them. When saving you will have to save to a different folder or change the name of the duplicate file. Hope this helps. |

| Re: duplicate image without copy name is on the pr I agree with holgaman.... This is getting way more complicated than it should be.... You should edit your action (or record a new one) WITHOUT the first part, "duplicate image". An action does exactly what you tell it to do. It's making a copy of each image, therefore adding the word "copy" to each file. To remove PART of an action, drag it to the trash can icon at the foot of the actions palette... Here's a link that explains editing an action: http://www.adobepress.com/articles/a...34249&seqNum=5 And in the same article, a link that explains how to create your own action: http://www.adobepress.com/articles/a...34249&seqNum=3 Once I've created an action, this is what I do: Let's say I have a folder called "new images"... 1. Duplicate the folder called "new images". A new folder called "new images copy" will be created. It contains the EXACT same files with the exact same file names and extension. 2. In Photoshop, choose automate/batch. 3. Select desired action from drop down menu (make sure that the action doesn't duplicate your image) 4. Source: Folder 5. Choose folder (in my case, "new images copy") 6. Destination: Save and close Done. Very simple... I use this all the time for resizing images. Good luck! |
