psd thumbnails problem I had to reinstall Photoshop lately and can't remember how to have the content of psd thumbnails showing under Photoshop (see picture) without clicking on each picture individually. They show OK in Windows Explorer. Thanks for your help, Sylvia

Re: psd thumbnails problem Thanks for the answer, OlBaldy. I just tried it but it still didn't work, maybe because I use a portable version of CS5? Thanks again, Sylvia

Re: psd thumbnails problem Chillin, I think Sylvia has the reverse problem. She states that PSD thumbnails show up in Windows but not in PS when she does a File>Open. Sylvia, try the following: Open any folder which contains a PSD file. From the folder window menu, choose Tools>Folder Options. Click on the File Type tab, scroll down to click on PSD; Click the Change button and associate that file type with your current version of PS. I seem to recall that associating a file type with a specific application also associates the thumbnail view with that application. I may be wrong but it might be worth a try. Regards, Murray

Re: psd thumbnails problem If it's any consolation, they don't show for me either. Adobe dropped official support of thumbnails in Windows a couple of versions ago. Any thumbnail viewing now will be via hacks and other unsupported techniques. This is one reason Adobe implemented minibridge in CS5.

Re: psd thumbnails problem Sylvia, my rusty memory kicked in (at least partly). I recall way back at PS7, Adobe and Microsoft got into some disagreement and windows no longer supported PSD thumnail. At the time, there was a recommendation on the Adobe Forum to download and replace one of a new PS dll with the one from the previous PS release. I will see if I can find any old documentation. I don't recall what I did but under Windows XP, I have continued to have the ability to view the PSD thumbnails in Windows and with PS File>Open from PS7 thru CS5. However, in the meantime you might want to check out Mystic Thumbs at the link below. The program allows you to see PSD and other thumbnails in Win 7 and Vista and I think it costs $15 and you could get a free trial version. Regards, Murray http://mysticcoder.net/software.html

I just checked the link for the software you mentioned, but it's only to preview them in Windows Explorer. I do see them OK in Windows Explorer. It's only in Photoshop that they show only the icon. It's no big deal, don't waste your time on that. I can see them with ACDSee or Bridge. I just thought it would be great if I could also see them in Photoshop. Sylvia |

Re: psd thumbnails problem "# Download this file to a temporary folder. # Shut down all Adobe programs. # Set a ’system return point’ to allow you to rollback the changes should anything go wrong (if your system supports it). # Unzip it to C:Program Files Common Files Adobe Shell. You could quite likely already have either of the DLL files. No matter. # Run ‘aiicon.dll.reg’ by double clicking it. # Run ‘psicon.dll.reg’ by double clicking it." This is from the link here. I used to have the same problem. One more thing, I had to open the windows explorer first for the thumbnails to show up. See sample below, view from photoshop "open" tab.

Re: psd thumbnails problem Sylvia, according to one of the PS wizards on the Adobe site using File > Open gets you the operating system viewer (Windows Explorer) and not a Photoshop utility. Regards, Murray

Re: psd thumbnails problem Guys, I keep telling you my Windows Explorer displays the pictures properly. It's under Photoshop only that I can't see the content of the psd files. Chillin, your screen capture shows that you can't see some of the .psd files properly either. Edit My apologies Many thanks to all of you Sylvia Last edited by sylvia1065; 07-05-2010 at 12:19 AM.
