Fade unavailable with HDR and NiK sharp For some reason, I am not able to use the Fade 'command/tool' after I have applied either the HDR toning effect or my Nik Sharpener Pro tool on an image. The 'fade' command in the 'Edit' column stays grey and unavailable to apply or adjust when I try to do so immediately after applying either. I also have the upgraded Imagenomic's Noiseware Professional but I don't have the same problem with it. The 'fade' command is available when I use it and it appears to work fine...as it always had for me. Is there some setting ...or preference that I need to make to make the 'fade' option avaiable? I've tried changing the 'Mode' from 8 bits to both 16 bit and 32 bit mode under the 'image' column, but that didn't make a difference. What is wrong?...or what am I doing wrong and how do I 'fix' this issue?

Re: Fade unavailable with HDR and NiK sharp There is no setting that I know of, the Fade should work unless, somehow the plug-in in question is making a step to erase it.

Re: Fade unavailable with HDR and NiK sharp I don't have Nik s/w but you are correct, the Edit>Fade in CS5 is not available after Image>Adjust>HDR Toning. Not sure why Adobe chose not to implement it for this command. It's new code and it could have been a programming oversight. Your backup plan would be to perform the action on a duplicate copy of the layer and then to adjust the opacity and blend mode. Regards, Murray

Re: Fade unavailable with HDR and NiK sharp If I am remembering right. Nik software usually creates a new layer, hence your fading should be done using a Mask/Opacity setting of the new layer. Hope this helps Peter

Re: Fade unavailable with HDR and NiK sharp Thanks for all the feedback and advise so far. Murry & Pete ....Thanks for the suggestions, I'll try the work-around advise you both gave and see if that helps. Hopefully the unavaiability to 'fade' HDR Toning was just an oversight that Adobe will be fixing at some future time. Any other advise by others is also still welcome. If all else fails, I might just give Adobe's cust. ser. a call for help.

Re: Fade unavailable with HDR and NiK sharp I’m not sure its technically possible to fade after HDR processing since that data is solely created in the HDR module if you will and what would it fade from? IOW, when you say, pull a curve, or apply USM, you can fade that over the original data that is probably in memory prior to applying that editing command. HDR is kind of different. Its like asking if you can apply Fade after rendering raw data in Camera Raw (you can’t).

Re: Fade unavailable with HDR and NiK sharp I would call NIK Software themselves and/or email them about your question. I found this company to be very helpful. Go to the source. If anyone would know they would. I hope this helps.

Re: Fade unavailable with HDR and NiK sharp I just downloaded a trial version of (NIK) HDR efex pro. It installed without a problem. But it won't let me activate in Photoshop. I use CS4. I can use it in Aperture and Bridge but not in Ps, although it appears on the Filter menu but not highlighted, so I cannot use it. I tried put it in: Ps/filters/panels/plug-ins/ folders, it doesn't make any difference still can't use it. Any clue?

Re: Fade unavailable with HDR and NiK sharp Boneappetit, you need to do File>Automate>Merge to HDR EFEX Pro.You can not access it from the Filter menu when you want to load and merge files. Regards, Murray
