photoshop or file problem

this is a first for me. I am wondering if I corrupted files or a photoshop problem. I am using cs5.

I took an already edited PSD file and converted it from 16 to 8bit and these green lines appeared.

the 2nd shot actually happened first. I opened a file, duplicated a layer, added a layer mask. Once I modified the mask, the white lines appeared.

what is this problem, I have never seen this before.
