layer styles too slow

Whenever I open the layer styles it takes 15 to 20 seconds to appear. I know thie ie not normal.Everything else works great
My system is;

Gateway 933 with windows ME,30gb hd,384mb ram.I give Photoshop 7
75% memory

I tried to get an answer in Adobe Photoshop User to User forums
but could't get a good solution

Can anyone help please?

I had this problem with PS6 and was frustrated that no one could give me an answer. PS7 fixed it, though. Since you're already on PS7 you'll have to wait for the first service pack (I hear one is a month or so away).

Additionally, you can email Chris Cox directly (his email address is on the Adobe forums). He's one of the Photoshop developers, and the only one I've found that both a) knows what the heck he's talking about, and b) answers emails.
