Question noob question on Layers ?

quick question....

I've scanned in a photo and saved as a .tif

After opening in Photoshop 7, I can't add a layer ?...its all greyed out.

Under Image Mode I see RGB, 16bit.

Any help appreciated

Change Image > Mode > (to) 8-bit
...and you should be in business.

There are a lot of things that can't be used with 16 bit images that are available for use on 8 bit images. We had an early challenge that required the use of a 16 bit file. You should check it out.
Here's the link.

Thumbs down thanks

The 8 bit solution worked....the problem was in the scanning. I had the scanner at RGB 48bit, instead of RGB.

thanks again.
