Re: Feedback - Uwe Steinmueller 08/15/09

BTW, both audio and screen rendering were excellent.

Too bad the Webinar software isn't color managed; the colors looked pretty funky on my wide gamut display.

The colors I saw during the Webinar looked very much like the images on the announcement page (http://www.retouchpro.com/index.php?page=steinmueller) viewed in Internet Explorer. The difference with e.g. Safari on Windows is huge.

Re: Feedback - Uwe Steinmueller 08/15/09

This was my forth webinar. Time is great for me (college football may change that however), but still the weekend over the weekday is outstanding.

If you are not familar with HDR or Photomatrix then I'd say this was a very good webinar...it presented the basics and did show you how to take three photos into Photomatrix ...tone..then take into photoshop...good so far. There, however, was little beyond this. I was disappointed that he did not share what he does with the contrast..instead he wants you to buy the script. What was refreshing with the other presenters I've experienced was to show me more advanced usage of photoshop, masks, and techniques. He also shared very little post processing in photoshop (again beyond his scripts he was selling). Well worth $10 and highly recommended to the novice. Nothing advanced here...maybe next time....

One question I did ask but got no reply...does he stitch photos and if so, does he stich before HDR or HDR then stitch.

It's 12+ MB, so you might want to rightclick and save it locally before trying to open.

Tested the download and it is ok.

Beyond some basic tests no.

Great job. These $10 deals are fantastic. This was my second webinar, i did the Masking one a few weeks ago as well. Both here and on the last one, i would have loved to see the presenter work from start to finish on one image. Today Uwe did well, but when he got into photoshop it was a lot of already made layers and him explaining what each one did. Instead of seeing him work on several different images, i would love to see him work on just one all the way through.
A thought for the future too, would be sample images that we could download before hand and follow along with while the presenter works on it.
I love Uwe's powerpoint at the beginning.
thanks for everything!

These are presets for Photomatix (more precise 3.2)!!

Nothing for Photoshop.

I wnted to spare you the time waiting for scripts to run. Some are not very fast :-).

Working with my scripts alow me to do only few steps but the processing takes it time.

Uwe..what is you camera of choice..yesterday you mentioned using... the Canon MarkIIIds, Mark III, Nikon 700, Nikon d3x. You did say you were using a 21mm prime lens?

When you print, what are your typical print sizes? What is your preferred paper?

If you do another, I'd like more post processing advice. thanks sharing.

Hard to say. m4/3 cameras (for video and travel light), 1Ds3 (high res) and sometimes D700

>When you print, what are your typical print sizes? What is your preferred paper?

up to 20" wide. Some of the new Baryta papers

>If you do another, I'd like more post processing advice. thanks sharing.

Some retouching (skew, coloning), Contrast and Detail + Sharpening, Sometimes color fine tuning.

Uwe

I guess I wasn't clear...for your prints...what aspect ratio do you normally use? So for a 20 wide print what height do you normally use?

Just looked at Uwe's site(Digital Outback Photo) and after thanking everyone for attending, he mentioned another webinar for next month. Stay tuned!
And if you visit the site, be sure to check out his smugmug gallery showcasing his Fort Point at 21mm images.
