Re: RetouchPRO LIVE with Amy Dresser

And I feel so bad about that, but the beta won't last much longer.

Hopefully when it is finally released to us, we can play catch-up.

Re: RetouchPRO LIVE with Amy Dresser

Once again I'd love to pay and watch, but I was in the studio all weekend (here in Tokyo), so I couldn't watch either of them and I can't buy them on YouTube because out of 193 countries in the world, YouTube Rental blocks them all but one...

Doug, again, I beg you, please make this video available more widely! The US population is just 5 percent of the world population... Not everyone in the world can watch it at 4am or whenever. Some people have scheduling conflicts. These tutorials are adopting a broadcast TV-era model in the age of the internet.

Last time I request that you make this videos available for purchase directly, you only me "it's all about the live broadcast" implying there was little value in watching the non-live version of the video, but if you believe that yourself, then why rebroadcast them at all? *sigh*

Personally, a non-live version is much more useful to me, because I can pause and rewind when I need too, and I can watch it again to pick up things I might have forgotten about on the first viewing.

I know I'm not the only one who is frustrated about this. Quality retouching tutorials from premiere professionals are pretty rare, so it's very frustrating to find them only broadcast on fixed time-slots in the internet age when digital files can easily sold and transferred so the viewer can time-shift them to fit their schedule. Hopefully someone will put the last Amy Dresser vid up as a torrent, because there is a real need here that's not being met by this business model.

If anyone else feels the way I do, please be more vocal! Maybe if the management hears enough complaints they'll do something different. There are many other ways to manage the distribution of the file. Seems like he's not against it in principle (it's on YouTube). Finally, if you buy this from YouTube, an you download it or can you only just watch it online one time (or maybe many times during a 2-3 day period)? How does it work exactly? I can't even view the page on YouTube because they block IPs outside of the US. Can I pay someone to record it for me?

Cheers,
Max

Re: RetouchPRO LIVE with Amy Dresser

Sigh...no one is "blocked", in spite of what YouTube's message says. It is simply still in the beta stage of development. Just like every other program and service out there went through a beta stage.

Management is only me. Encouraging people to bug me is not going to help anything.

I can appreciate your frustration, but please do not ask people to pirate these shows.

Re: RetouchPRO LIVE with Amy Dresser

Hi Doug,

Not sure what you mean, "no one is blocked." I can't even see the page for the video on YouTube. So YouTube is IP filtering; that is, they recognize that my IP is from Japan and they block me from accessing the video.

YouTube has been beta testing their Rental service since January. According to a recent Financial Times article, "The company is reportedly aiming for an end-of-year unveiling. It would launch in the US first, but it would eventually spread to other countries."

So considering it's still in beta in the US and might be for another couple months or more (these big IT projects rarely release on-time), then it's probably reasonable to expect for it to take another half-a-year or more to sort out all the billing and rights issues so it can "eventually spread to other countries". So, optimistically, maybe I can watch it in 9 months.

I had a friend record it for me, but unfortunately his software didn't get the audio. Any chance you can at least make the audio available to me?

Re: RetouchPRO LIVE with Amy Dresser

btw, is this new video on youtube rentals now? if so, can you send me a direct link to the video page? I can't even view your channel. They block access to all the rental pages. Maybe I can pay someone in the US to rent it and record the audio for me, so I can match it to my webinar video recording, so I need the link to this video on YouTube Rentals.

Re: RetouchPRO LIVE with Amy Dresser

Yu, NO one is allowed to record it, and if anyone ever does and the news leaks out - there will be no more Amy Dresser video tutorials on this site. Then you will have to wait until she decides to do one of her own and sells it - for a lot more money than you have to pay to watch it here.

You ask other people here to break the rules for you (the only posts you ever make on this forum are to complain about not being able to record Amy Dresser) when all you had to do was arrange your schedule to watch the show. If you were unable to do that - sorry, but why does your inability to manage your schedule make it necessary for me to break the rules, the copyright laws, and ruin the chance of having any future LIVE shows ever shown here - Doug has made it very clear that the artists doing the work will not do any more programs if they find out that their work has been recorded and downloaded anywhere else on the internet. You are willing to ruin the program for everyone else just because you haven't figured a way to watch one show?!

> when all you had to do was arrange your schedule to watch the show

You make it sound so easy. Are you retired or something? Not everyone has such flexibility. You don't know how busy I am, how many multiple clients I'm working for this week. I just worked for 6 nights from 9:30pm to 6:30 am shooting one of the largest murals in the world, section-by-section, in the eleven floor Abercrombie & Fitch store in Ginza while at the same time I'm helping National Geographic produce a documentary on Yakuza, AND I spend 14 hours in the studio this past weekend doing a fashion shoot for a third client. Keep in mind the the last AmY Dresser vid aired at 4am Japan time. I had a friend wake up and start his recording, then go back to sleep.

As far as accusing me of copyright violations, brush up on Sony Corp. v. Universal City Studios for a case in which substantial copying—entire programs for private viewing—was upheld as fair use, at least when the copying is done for the purposes of time-shifting.

Yeah, Amy would be wise to do her own video. The current tutorials could reach a much larger market if the distribution was handled differently.

> You are willing to ruin the program for everyone else just because you haven't figured a way to watch one show?!

Well doesn't it seem a bit inconvenient that the only way for me to see the vid is if I 1) cancel a $700 a day gig and wreck my client's schedule; or, 2) fly to the US, rent it on YouTube, then fly back? That's totally unnecessary. It's a 2gb digital file, and I have 100mbit fiber optic line here in Tokyo. So I need to pay $1,000 to fly to the US so I can access it via a US-based IP address, or else I can get someone to record it for me in the US (or wait for it as a torrent). I'm totally willing to pay for it, but Doug isn't offering me any options. Recording a broadcast to time-shift it for personal-use is not a criminal act.

anyway, I'll figure out a way to get it, but thanks for making it so easy for me and the other 95% of the world's population not living on American soil.

Re: RetouchPRO LIVE with Amy Dresser

Cool down, there's really no need to become upset :-).
You could try to use a proxy/VPN in order to get access to the YouTube beta rentals.
I'm just testing http://www.anchorfree.com/downloads/hotspot-shield/ and it seems to work fine for me (albeit a little slow).

Re: RetouchPRO LIVE with Amy Dresser

Hello Max, probably Yu Fujimoto is just the username...??

マジ日本人なの?

Well, I'm a Japanese but currently living in Asian region which is 2 hours behind Tokyo. Occasionally, I come and goes to Australia which is then 1 hour and sometime 2 hours ahead of you.

Not just you that are busy. I am a busy working person also but I know how to manage my time. If I want to be up for the show, I dedicate and "manage" my time. It's also a big deal for me with the timing. Sometime I have to wake up at 4am based on where I am to watch the show. I have nothing to whine about.

I know how to record the show. I have all the materials it's so damn easy. However, I won't. I follow by the rules, respect the presenter. Infact, it would be such a **** if because of I'm the one ruins it all. The person took so much time and effort into "share" and "educate". Infact, this is also an opportunity to interact and ask something for advise.

For Youtube, I myself is also desperate for the rental lock issue as well. However, I know the meaning of "Being patient" just wait....

I know Doug is doing everything he could to provide the best method into distributing. For what reason he has to provide all these useful materials to everyone if people just keep whining about this and that.

You don't have to stick with just these RetouchPRO Live or rebroadcast. There are so many other useful resources out there. If these are not ready, I'll learn from other resources as well. Pratice with some other material as well and hope that someday the YOUTUBE rental thing would expand more widely. By that time, you might already learn something more advanced and feel like why you have to wait for just this particular LIVE Show....
