Re: RP LIVE "Ask an Adobe Engineer" with Chris Cox

TriniK - yeah, we get frustrated at times because we get blamed (constantly) for crashes and other bugs that are completely beyond our control. When it's in our control, we try to get a fix out there. When it's not in our control, we try to get the responsible party to fix it - but we really have no leverage over OS makers, printer makers, scanner makers, etc.

I've even been sending people email about avoidable problems (copying incompatible plugins into CS4, etc.) when they send in crash reports with their email address.

Thanks Chris for the Action Can I ask maybe not your area but why do Adobe not offer a separate upgrade path to the extended version of the software. For example I purchased CS3 extended and have upgraded to CS4 extended for the same price as someone who may have chosen to upgrade from the standard version of CS3 ?

Re: RP LIVE "Ask an Adobe Engineer" with Chris Cox

Thanks for trying to help Chris. Believe me though, I have done it over and over. It will "open" files as windows, but if you "drag" a file from your desktop to the application window (yes I like that, I find looking at my desktop distracting when I am working on a very detailed image) it jumps and sticks itself as a tab. Sure I can then pull it away, but as I had mentioned in the meantime any other windows that I had open have vanished and I then have to go to "float all in windows" to get them back. So many steps that seem unnecessary. I really do appreciate your having tried to help though as I know you have a zillion better things to do, unless... you are from my bolt of cloth that abhors an unsolved mystery. I will have to throw in the towel on this one however and just live with it.
Thanks again

doctorontop - I'm not quite sure what you're asking. But we have upgrades available for just about every path (downgrades, we don't have).

TriniK - yeah, I'm going to look into it. The drag and drop is probably a clue (something I don't do often and has a slightly different code path).

Re: RP LIVE "Ask an Adobe Engineer" with Chris Cox

Hey Chris

When I attempt what Trini is experiencing, the already open image moves BEHIND the application frame.
This happens, at least on my mac, whether the open as Tabs is on or off.

Chris

When Adobe will implement a good downsampling algorithm like lanczos?

Anyone interested in downsampling check this

ditto what chris T said....i have to hit tab to hide everything, move my image window down from under the top menu, then hit tab again to bring it all back.

Sorry what I meant was for example say I am a user of CS3 extended and I wish to upgrade to CS4 extended I pay $349 but if I only had the standard version of CS3 I would still pay $349 to upgrade to CS4 extended.

I know have CS4 extended and when CS5 is launched I will upgrade to the extended version of that, but would it not make things a little more fair to allow extended version users a cheaper path each time we upgrade to the next extended version rather than keeping a one upgrade price for all.

Re: RP LIVE "Ask an Adobe Engineer" with Chris Cox

Thank you Chris for a fascinating presentation!

I have downloaded the "White To Transparency" action, and it is wonderful. Is there any chance that you could put it into the 'Default Actions' folder in the Actions panel in CS5? I can think of a lot of Photoshop users who would find this action invaluable, that will never find it if it is just posted on a few forums online.

Thanks for making the action available to us, and again for such an insightful discussion with Doug.

Is there a chance to get this show posted on YouTube anytime :-)?
I guess that'd be easier than a re-broadcast?

The YouTube rentals are not available just yet in Germany. But I'll add this to the rebroadcast queue.
