Re: RetouchPRO LIVE with Amy Dresser "Elvada"

Hi all
I do a lot of webinars too.
About 40 each year.
Sometomes as a presenter and sometimes as the retoucher.

I also saw a lot of webinars with Doug and some other great retouchers here.
And i think that Doug do a very very good job.
The price is to cheap i guess.

You all have to know that many retouchers are not speakers.
Amy is a great retoucher but not a trainer or speaker.
So its perfect for the retoucher when someone help with words etc.
And i dont know if you can imagen how difficult it is do this perfect.

As you saw, all the professionals only use the bacis tools.
So what you can learn from this persons is the experience.
And the experience is something what comes from their mind.
And thats what Doug do perfect.
Hes ask "Why do you do that?" "What do you think when you do that?"

Of course that looks boring for many people.
But thats the most important part to learn fast.

The session yesterday was very very good for me.
Amy use a lot of ways where she can be faster but she have a awesome feeling and shes a great person.

Thanks for the great webinar

lg calvin

Superb webinar. I'd like to thank Doug for putting these together. I'd also like to thank Amy for the style and panache she brings to her work. I've always used much the same correcting methods but without the stunning results. Watching the masters at work and learning from the techniques presented have improved my workflow and made me bolder in my choices/results. Thank you for being willing to teach us.

Janet

Same opinion as Calvin - of course there are not many new techniques to learn, since most of the work is done with curves and D&B, but the really interesting part is, what's going on in Amy's mind and eyes. I am really impressed on how accurate she can see the slightgest difference in color and how her huge amount of curves leads to an awesome result. On top of that she is a very nice and funny person and its always a lot of fun to watch and listen to her. Thanks to Amy and Doug - you both did a great job! Please keep it up

Re: RetouchPRO LIVE with Amy Dresser "Elvada"

I agree with Kontol that Amy's workflow was interrupted far too many times during the webinar and thought that a lot of the questions wasted a lot of time such as why she hadn't addressed some minor flaw in the image or used another technique. After Amy admitted that she mostly uses tools that were introduced way before CS4 why bother to ask why she wasn't taking advantage of newer techniques when that is obviously not her strength as either a retoucher or a teacher? Questions like that don't really add to anyones knowledge and I felt the webinar would have been better if we could have just had more time to watch Amy work and do things in her own idiosyncratic way.

Also a lot of questions were about aesthetics which is usually very hard for a visual artist to articulate in words, let alone while they are trying to work on an image. It was kind of obvious that things like large pores or slight imperfections in the model don't bother her and that she is more interested in character than perfection in a model.

Re: RetouchPRO LIVE with Amy Dresser "Elvada"

reply to ^^ i attended all of Amy webinar (this is my #4 with her) and Amy seems to prefer talking and working at the same time (she likes small talks). she's definitely not a quiet type and it doesn't bother her when Doug asking questions...she actually asked many time for questions when it got quiet or while shes doing boring stuffs like D&B and local color corrections (where she spent most of her time).

my only complain is image selection...can u (Doug) find a better or a little more exciting image(s) for Amy to retouch? im pretty sure Amy love doing Fashion image and figure too (not just the face).

Too many interruptions. Don't mind the questions but the small talk is soooooooo unnecessary and honestly takes away from the presenter and people paying to watch them.

Sorry Doug. I think your site is awesome and the cost of the webinar is very reasonable, and you are doing a great service by providing this forum and the webinars, but really.

Anyway, love watching Amy work, but disappointed in the final skin texture although she did explain she isn't a "beauty" retoucher (don't remember the exact way she put it)and I realize she did have to wrap it up in a given amount of time. Many of us who work full-time as retouchers would not be able to pass that off.

On a positive note, loved the merge visable, set to overlay and desat routine. Nice touch!

Just my 2 cents.
