Re: International rentals test (part 2)

I just added Chris Tarantino's "Surprise" show and Steve Caplin's "Reflections" show.

Thumbs down Re: International rentals test (part 2)

I recently rented "Prime Minister" with Erik Hattrem. It worked OK at first, but half way through, the video stopped to buffer every 3-5 seconds, making it practically unwatchable. I was trying to watch it on Feb 9, between round 4pm and 9pm. My internet connection speed was at about 15Mbps. I'm renting from the US. The image quality was very good though.

I much prefer the youtube rentals which seem to be removed. The current player doesn't seem to allow buffering and has very bad controls for forwarding/rewinding the video. I've rented several other videos via the youtube channel, but after this experience, I'm not sure I will rent another using this current content delivery system.

Re: International rentals test (part 2)

Sorry you had problems. It sounds like network congestion, which is rare but also temporary.

Re: International rentals test (part 2)

Reading through all these comments tells me not only is $15 too expensive for a rental lasting only 3 days —and with no PREVIEW to judge if the teacher is going to ramble or stay on point (!), but there sure seem to be a lot of bugs.
Even after 25 years on computers, the experience is still fraught with frustration, and paying for a limited time video that keeps stopping and buffering sounds like hell to me. Learning something new is frustrating enough without placing a time limit AND tech difficulties in the mix.
Let us know when you offer free previews and get the bugs worked out.

Re: International rentals test (part 2)

Hi there doug nelson. I belive you follow along on other forums here on retouchpro . If you do you have proparbly noticed there is a lot of talk about color and how to develop and use various coloring techniques in photoshop . Is there a posiblity to bring in a inviromental portrait retouched and especially colored by some retoucher/photographer. Seems to be a lot of videos on only skin and beauty retouching when i look through the videolist from time to time. Im sure amy dresser could do such a show as i think shes got a very artistic angle to her work i hope its ok to post and request here.

It's a good request, but I'll admit to being a bit vague on precisely what you have in mind. Could you perhaps provide an example?

Re: International rentals test (part 2)

ok - heres what im messing with - trying to do some subtle but important coloring ( for me at least) . As you see ive got a lot to learn but i think that color (and light) is the most important expression in an image (feel, mood... ) and the hardest tutorials to get a hold on books or internet. So what im missing on all these great videos you display here on retouchpro is some inviromental shots - meaning i miss some background either its skys, walls, buildings, nature ... you name it. a person in an inviroment which is also going to be adressed in a video. hope it makes sense

Re: International rentals test (part 2)

Hmm...let me ponder this a bit. In the meantime, I think you'd appreciate Chris Alvanas's shows, particularly the HDR one (don't worry, the HDR is less than half the show, the rest is fine color and tonal control, the HDR show for color, the B/W show for grayscale).

Gry Garness also did a couple of shows that touch on this.

Not sure if anyone is still using this option but I have a few things:

1. The inability to save the video is a bit obnoxious. I mean, if I've rented it, obviously I'm not going to rent it again so allowing me to download it should be ideal.

The quality is fine, worked for me on a slower 20mbps connection but as quoted above, the rewind feature is not ok. This needs to be fixed asap and I know youtube will allow you to rewind.

The biggest issue for me is the presenter talking more than the featured retoucher. Yes, I know the host has to ask the obnoxious questions as not everyone is advanced in photoshop, but he KEPT cutting Amy D off and making her lose her train of thought. I don't want to hear how experienced the host is, I want to hear the retoucher. Now if these were free, then yes, that's fine, talk and promote how good the host is, but he's charging. Be quiet and let the retoucher work "Oh ya, I really like what you did to this image" duh, that's why she's on your show!
