Great show again. If you are looking to learn I can't think of a better person than Chris. I am still confused about those Color maps could you direct me where to start I noticed that the curves weren't so crazy as in the solar curves they seem to be going different directions but not curvy.

Also, my favorite ones so far has been the "Redo" and "Healthy and Natural". Only because he kept going over the softlight technique.

Hi Chris,

At the beginning of this show you opened a RAW image in the ProPhoto workspace. Why do you prefer that space over, say Adobe RGB which most people seem to recommend?

Sorry, Larry. Send me an email that includes your paypal address and I'll issue a refund. You can catch the rental when it goes up tomorrow.

Re: RetouchPRO LIVE "Body Shop" with Chris Taranti

Thanks Chris, inspiring show and some great eyeopeners for me.
I too noticed the Prophoto workspace and if I saw correctly CMYK you were working with, what would be the reason to use this instead of Adobe RGB( as I was tought in school) ? About the sharpening...I am still really surprised....the first time that I hear this...I was convinced all the professional retouchers would sharpen the image in the end. In case your client would ask this, how would you sharpen for instance the image Red Hair on your website if the photographer asked you to?
Cheers
Rich

Re: RetouchPRO LIVE "Body Shop" with Chris Taranti

I prefer the Prophoto gamut space because its a much larger color space, and combined with 16 bit or 32 bit workflow gives much more control over gradation and breaking up in transitional areas such as shadows or coming down from 240 to 255.

For the Redhair image I'd make a alpha mask based on a mid tone mix, sharpen it with a custom filter sharpening, and then then add the mask to the layer and apply the mask.

Re: RetouchPRO LIVE "Body Shop" with Chris Taranti

Thanks for your reply Chris.

Do you hand off your finished file to the client in Prophoto 16bit, or do you do any conversion to the file first? I guess I'm wondering if there is any trade off between the advantages you mentioned and ease of conversion/hand over. Is the client's preference a consideration?

Regarding your red head /sharpening comment: are you saying that you apply the custom filter sharpening to the image layer and then mask it to reveal only mid tones, or do you apply the sharpening to the midtone mask itself?

Evan
