RetouchPRO LIVE - Photoshop Experiments

RetouchPRO LIVE with Scott Valentine
Photoshop Experiments

It's been some time since we last heard from Scott Valentine, but it's good to have him back.

You may recall that Scott is a research physicist who uses his analytical and critical-thinking skills to reverse-engineer Photoshop's inner workings. His experiments with dissecting and analysing Photoshop have lead to 2 best-selling Photoshop books.

On Saturday's RetouchPRO LIVE, Scott wants to show how you can design your own Photoshop experiments to help you fully understand and internalize what Photoshop is doing while you work. His goal is to make Photoshop less a magic black box and more of a predictable, precision tool.

He'll answer your questions during his presentation. Time permitting, he'll even take audience requests for suggestions on how to design specific experiments.

Re: RetouchPRO LIVE - Photoshop Experiments

Thanks for hosting me today, Doug!

Here are some links to grab experiment files I talked about during the show:

Blending modes: http://scoxel.com/hpobm/
My book describes the demo files in more detail, but they're essentially meant to allow you to see how blending modes affect color and brightness of a spectrum.

Adjustment layers: http://scoxel.com/hpoal/
These files include some basic recipes that should be fairly obvious when you open them up. Again, the experiment file is intended to give you a starting point for seeing the changes to color and brightness as you add adjustment layers. There is also a link to MorgueFile which is a great place to find free stock images for practice. Most of the images are not processed, so you can try out tons of different techniques for correction and enhancement.

I will be adding the RGB triangle file later this week, along with a few other goodies to help intrepid explorers :)
