Spitfire Grill

No review, other than to highly recommend this movie.

In this movie, part of the plot involves running an essay contest. The grill was to be given to the best essay writer. But the essay had to be mailed along with $100.

My question: is this legal?

I've never seen it so I could never quite figure out why they would name the movie after an out door cooking appliance. Makes sense now. As for the legality of the $100 I can't say for sure but my first thought would be that it was a fraud. Usually when they want money up front it's a scam. Besides, for $100 you could just go buy the grill yourself.

Excellent movie, in my opinion! As to the legality ..... This has been done in one form or another for years. Often times it will be an essay or some other contest for a house or some other form of property. Almost always there is an "entrance fee" along with a stipulation that a certain amount of entries must be received before the contest is considered valid. In other words, the owner is going to get at least "x" amount of dollars before they give up the joint.

I remember one older couple doing this with their restaurant/bar/motel up in North Idaho several years back. The contest winner ended up being a young married couple from somewhere in Minnesota. If I'm not mistaken, that contest also required $250.00 to get you in the door!

I don't really care if it's legal. The film was great, and here's another in a similar but different vein.......
The Bagdad Cafe........just saw last week. This strange woman from Germany moves into a motel that is part of the restaurant and changes everything. I think the place is real cause I have a pic of the restaurant from a surfing for pics trip on line. I was looking for unique old style diners, like the ones made from train cars. There has been a plethora of good films about restaurants in this country i.e. Mystic Pizza( Julia Roberts breakout film)
Diner, really great, Frankie and Johnny, Heavy, with Liv Tyler(love Liv, not her acting.

Bagdad Cafe is one of my favorite films. They made a horrible tv series from it. When I recommend it to someone and they watch it, they usually say "oh, so that's where that song comes from"
