Try this: http://graphicssoft.about.com/cs/pho...psvignette.htm I googled edge effects in photoshop, this seemed to be closest to what I think you're asking for.

How about just over lay the image onto a white layer and paint out the part of the image you don't want to show. You can pick what ever brush or brushes you want.

With Photoshop, I like Art History for messy lines. Copy photograph Find Edges, maybe desaturate it Set the snap shot in the History palette (or whatever it's called) Get crazy with Art History Brush

Or try this Select the border area, go into quick mask mode and apply distort/glass filter. Now apply blur /motion blur at 45 deg angle. Exit quick mask and fill with appropriate colour. Christine

Christine, thank you I tried that with a little tweeking (eraser) and I think it is a very close match to what the artists bring in. I would like to print it that way to give it something different than the finished off edge we always see. ydelle thank you to all who anwsered me.

Hi, I went in a slightly different direction. I wanted to make the edge as if the artist had masked off the image area with tape. When the tape was removed it left a slightly irregular, fuzzy edge. Image layer above a white background layer. Erase along image edges with a brush I concocted. Then blured edge so it looked like the pipment diffused into the paper. Then merge layers and add texture. Larry

looks good- I don't have to add texture because I work for a printer and we use the epison7900 with summerset water color paper . I can't believe how great the pictures turn out. ydelle
