Your tutorial showed me some very neat stuff in Paint Shop Pro! and the technique you describe gives a very nice effect.

I got feedback from my friend Susan, she didn't know where the dodge mode was, so i shall do another tutorial explaining dodge mode and also one about doing masks...Long night ahead i feel...

I didn't see any reference in this thread to Gimp. Gimp is free and very powerful. If you don't know what it is check out http://gimp.org. It's actually very similar to photoshop. There are tutorials on that site as well as at gimpguru.org. But I'm blown away by the stuff on this site and I'd like to see how some of the challenges are met using GIMP.

Welcome to RetouchPRO.

I know of one member for sure who uses Gimp (and quite well, I might add). His name is Lyle (member name: LKroll) and he's a really nice fellow. You might send him a Private Message (click "user CP" - very top of screen/far left, and use LKroll as the recipient address) and introduce yourself. I'm sure he'd enjoy hearing from another Gimp fan.

No, sorry I thought you were talking about the Gimp link...the one in Legacy's post doesn't work for me either.

If a face is badly discolored, all with one color or shade, its not hard to change that.
1) Go to the freehand selection tool and pick out point to point selection.
2) Using the tool, pick out an outline around all the disolored flesh.
3) Go to the layer menu, and pick out "new adjustment layer"
4) From the new adjustment layer submenu, pick out color balance
5) Play around with the color balance until you get what you want.

When the color of the flesh is suitable, pick ok (to put the color box away), go back to the selection, right click (to knock out the ants aroound your selection) and see what you have. If you see that your selection needs improvement, or have other issues with your completed work, do it all over again till you like it.
Each color has to have its own selection process, so if the area has multicolor problems, you have a lot of work to do!

This is a good exercise in Paint Shop Pro 7 & 8.

I can give you a good example. I shoot film and scan to disk at a local lab.. Sometimes the color comes back horrendous, so I get my work cut out for me sometimes.
