Re: Making a eyelash brush ( 4 free eyelash pic. included)

let me make my question clearer. I would like to use the current eyelases, can I transpose the image and just place and edit the lashes to my photo?

yes you can just extract it from the white background. But it is quicker to make it into a brush. The tutorial explains it well. One thing...you need to do free transform and to get natural look, you can adjust the lightness of the eyelashes and also maybe a very small amount of guassian blur to blend the lashes into the rest of the image, otherwise the lashes will stand out like eye sores

Re: Making a eyelash brush ( 4 free eyelash pic. included)

Please forgive me if this is a stupid question, but how do I select the eyelash I want to use from the tutorial? I don't know how to activate the selection tool on the tutorial. In case you can't tell, I am pretty new to all of this, but really wanted to try this tutorial. Any help would really be appreciated.

Re: Making a eyelash brush ( 4 free eyelash pic. included)

It's actually one of the brush tool...if you don't have eyelash brush you can download it

1.Copy and paste it to program files/adobe/adobe photoshop cs2/presets/brushes
2.To load the brush open adobe photoshop go to brush click on the load brushes and select the eyelash brush that you download earlier...

Thats what I understand in your question I hope I did some help here

Re: Making a eyelash brush ( 4 free eyelash pic. included)

Juds,
You will need to cut and paste the eyelashes from the tutorial page. If you are using a Mac, use the Grab app. If you are on a PC you will need to use one of that operating system's capture programs. Just make a selection around each of the the eye lash samples, or all of them at once and cut them up in PS. Number 1 was a little "dirty", I did a slight bit of clean up before I created the brush just to be sure that when the brush was created it picked up only the lashes.

Ruud92, thanks.

Mchilly, Thanks for your response . . .

Thanks Jeff - May I ask how you "cleaned it up"?

Re: Making a eyelash brush ( 4 free eyelash pic. included)

It probably wasn't really necessary because when when PS creates the brush it isolates the lashes pretty well. To answer your question though, I just made white my foreground color and used a small brush with 100% hardness and painted out the smudges between the lashes.

Re: Making a eyelash brush ( 4 free eyelash pic. included)

Juds, Thank you very much for checking out my site, I'm really just getting things off the ground. If you are having some challenges with creating this brush I would be happy to walk you through it during an IM chat or even over the phone. Some times being able to ask a question while doing it real time makes a big difference. What ever you want to do.

Jeff,
Thank you for your kind offer. I finally did get it figured out, although I have many challenges with PhotoShop. At the moment, one of those challenges is to figure out how to add/subtract from a selection. I see the buttons on the tool bar, but am at a loss as to how to get them to actually work.

Juds,

Thanks for the tutorial. Its works well. I would be interested in creating my own eyelash brushes. How do you do it? Do you draw from scratch or extract them from a photo?

Can somebody make a brush and mail it to me? I tried downloading them but there is no link and there is just the graphics so does that mean we all have to make those 4 brushes ourselves?

Just a note:
When I visit websites with music I either immediately flee the site or if really interested look for the "music off" button but generally just move on. For once I enjoyed the music which wasn't overpowering and was very well choreographed to the presentation. Cool!

Re: Making a eyelash brush ( 4 free eyelash pic. i

Depending on the image, brushes are great. I have used them many times, however, with some images the eyes just don't lend themselves to brushes. It is sometime better to use the pen tool and paths to create a set of lashes one lash at a time (it really doesn't take long once used to it). You'll need a tablet for the best results.
Create new layer. Start on one eye; top lashes. Use eye dropper tool, select natural color of lash. Select a hard brush - one or two points depending on the image ( practice makes perfect). Make a path ( one at a time for each lash ) that follows the natural line of the lash. Go to the fly out menu on the paths pallet. Stroke the path. Do this for each lash. Vary color of some of the lashes a tad. Look at real lashes and see that they are not perfect, sometimes they overlap each other. Once finished and satisfied with the contour of the top set of lashes for one eye, g blur just enough so the stroke is not hard and looks natural. You can also lower the opacity a bit. Not dark enough? Dup the layer play with opacity of the top layer and merge. Once done with one eye dup layer flip horizontal and rotate and tweak to fit other eye. Now on another layer follow the same steps for the bottom lashes. Much more custom and realistic effect for close up images. Of course takes a bit more time than a brush but worth the effort.
Hope this helps.
~Nancy
