Thumbs up Looking for a good sepia tone tutorial

Hello All,

I am looking for a good tutorial of converting a black and white photo to sepia tones. I know there are lots on the net, but I haven't found one that I like, so I thought i give it a try here and see who can tell me where I can get a very good sepia tone.

many thanks

regards

helen

Re: Looking for a good sepia tone tutorial

Here is one: Either convert the image to grayscale, or use channel mixer (or other photoshop tools to get the image(s) where you would like them to look. Convert them to grayscale Edit>mode>grayscale. then go to Edit>mode>duotone. First box should be black. (you can change this if you wish, but this will be the darkest tone for your image), at the top left of the dialogue box it will say Monotone, Duotone, ect. Choose Duotone, Click the white box where the second color will be. Use the pantone colors to alter the photograph. I prefer a warm neutral for my black and whites. But for sepia tone, you will just have to pick and choose to taste.

Re: Looking for a good sepia tone tutorial

Here's one I like for general toning of black and whites. It uses an inverted luminosity mask to tone mostly the midtones. You can control how much effect the mask has by adjusting the dynamic range of the mask. Preserving the white highlight and black shadows adds a little more pop than just using a color filter.

Re: Looking for a good sepia tone tutorial

take a grayscale image and convert to cmyk and you can use a gradient map set to color mode to simulate a split tone effect...
