I realize that all notes in this thread are 7 years old. Oh Well...
I think I must be doing something wrong. When I either follow your tutorial step by step or run the action, the "corrected" layer in normal blending mode has the same overall -20 reduced contrast that was inserted as a layer earlier in the process. So what I end up with is a dull un-contrasty image. The clipping is reduced, but so is the contrast. Your example didn't appear to have this reduced contrast look.
In other words, the corrected layer looks exactly like the background layer with the contrast layer turned on except that the clipped areas are now colored in (as they should be). I'm just trying to figure out why the finished result has the -20 reduced contrast.
