I thought this was pretty amazing. Great example showing why you should use your Color Sampler Tool often...

Their brightness is the same in PS, i.e. 67%.

Here's an example of excessive copying. It's very lossy somehow. Just not the same

Wow! Clever. (Oh - and I checked it with the nifty new tool I posted about here: http://www.retouchpro.com/forums/software/12061-colorzilla-colour-sampler-firefox-browser.html)

Use the eyedropper to check the RGB values of both tiles, A & B - they both are the same shade of gray (107, 107, 107). For even more drama, you can copy the B tile to a layer, then move it up next tile A to compare side-by-side.

Caitlin - ColorZilla sounds very cool. I'll definitely check that out.

Thanks for the tip!

HAHAHA I'm laughing so hard right now.

As for that being the same shade... I don't know why but that bothers me

It's like when you really start thinking about the universe having no end. It's just...

troublesome to me

Nice one Pierre.

This must be this first picture I’ve seen where it looks better with artefacts.

This is what you call "Simultaneous contrast". The two gray squares look different in brightness and color(this happens with color images as well). Overlapping then, they are identical. Using the eyedroppers they will reveal the same values (L*A*B,RGB and CMYK) dependings on your color settings in P.S.
