WHAT to charge???

My son, a 'new' photographer, has been contacted by the South Rome Project for photos. The Project is an endeavor to redevelop a rundown section of town. SRP wants documentary type photos of the life of 2-3 families in the area. Photos would be used in a PowerPoint presentation to raise funds. Probably take several weeks to shoot plus cleanup.

How to charge???

1. Flat rate?
2. Daily rate plus expenses?

As to the pics

1. Usage fee?
2. Sell outright??

My first thought is "does the SRP really expect to pay for them?" Every group like this that has contacted me for this kind of thing wanted me to donate the time and expenses.

That being said, I would most likely go for a daily rate plus expenses plus some kid of usage fee or at least limit their usage, renewable yearly.

$ amounts are always hard to give. If you get a day rate job, how many hours does that mean for a day?, does that include travel time to the job or is the job in another city or or or?????

Under the best circumstances I would not go for less than 700 to 1K per day.
