Sleep Number Bed

Any one out there have one of these? I am currently researching this bed and considering buying one, but would really like to hear from someone who actually owns one. They are quite pricey and I was wondering if it was really worth it.

Sorry T Paul, will not help you. Don't have one and don't know anyone who might have one. I did find out that my mattress number is 40

Re: Sleep Number Bed

I went to a sleep comfort store and tried one there. Pretty comfortable I must admit. I thought the mattress would adjust as a whole, but it actually contours to your body as you adjust the sleep number. I think Westins or some other hotel chain offers them. I may just have to stay a night and see if they are really worth it.

Re: Sleep Number Bed

What if it's so good you're unable to sleep anywhere except in your own bed?

Re: Sleep Number Bed

Well if the sleep number bed turns out to be the wonder bed that beats all other beds...then I guess it will make returning home (once I purchase one) even sweeter!

Re: Sleep Number Bed

Epinions was very informative (especially one post on the return policy) and got me to go back and look at regular mattresses.

Re: Sleep Number Bed

I've had one for about 10 years. I would never consider going back to a regular mattress. Once you experience a bed with adjustments, you'll realize what I mean. Usually when you buy a bed, you adjust to it . . . that simple fact alone doesn't seem logical does it?

I'm pretty active, sometimes after cycling, lifting or working outside or anything that may place a strain on my back, I may want extra support, so I change it to be more firm. Other times you may feel like sleeping in a softer bed, again just press a button. Usually my number is about 45 to 50. Also, if you have a wife or husband that prefers a softer or firmer setting, no problem, you can set either side independently from the other.

To make a long story short . . . it works.

Damn . . . I must sound like I have stock in the company.

Re: Sleep Number Bed

Well we decided to purchase a mattress topper and delay the mattress purchase for a bit.

Re: Sleep Number Bed

T, I have had one for six years -- I changed from a water mattress (not a typical waterbed). I haven't had a regular mattress in well over 15 years. I had higher priced regular mattresses, but found them uncomfortable after a few years (they seemed to lose their springyness)-- perhaps I could have found a different model that would have worked for me, but I decided to buy the water mattress (it had separate coils and each coil could be filled with different amounts of water). I really enjoyed the feel, but didn't enjoy the heavy weight of water when I considered moving the bed or moving a coil, etc. When I moved from one house to another and had to empty the coils, I decided to look for something light -- found Sleep Comfort and liked it. I worried about how long the air pump would work, but it is still doing fine after 6 years, and a lot of changes -- some nights I want firmer, some nights I want softer... The price is steep, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone because of the price AND the fact that a bed is a very personal decision -- we spend so much time there that it's important to be comfortable. Taking your time and trying out cheaper options makes sense. What works for one person may not work for another. I would ask you one question -- why were you considering some other type of mattress -- is there something that bothers you about the traditional type? If so, keep reading about and trying different kinds -- there is probably something new being created right now, and maybe it will be right for you.

Re: Sleep Number Bed

Sleeps never been a problem for me, my wife claims I could sleep on a washing line. Now keeping awake, there's a different thing altogether.
