Time for a laugh!

These computers are wonderful things. I love em to death!!!!!! : BUT If You Think You've Got Problems?... In March, 1992 a man living in Newton (near Boston), Massachusetts, and building a new home, received a bill for his as yet unused gas line stating that he owed $0.00.

He ignored it and threw it away.

In April he received another and threw that one away too. The following month the gas company sent him a very nasty note stating they were going to cancel his gas line if he didn't send them $0.00 by return mail. He called them, talked to them, and they said it was a computer error and they would take care of it.

The following month just before moving into his new home, he decided that it was about time that he tried out the troublesome gas line figuring that if there were usage on the account it would put an end to his ridiculous predicament.

However, when he went to use the gas, it had been cut off. He called the gas company who apologized for the computer error once again and said that they would take care of it.

The next day he got a bill for $0.00 stating that payment was now overdue.

Assuming that having spoken to them the previous day the latest bill was yet another mistake and he ignored it, trusting that the company would be as good as their word and sort the problem out.

The next month he got a bill for $0.00 stating that he had 10 days to pay his account or the company would have to take steps to recover the debt.

Finally, giving in, he thought he would beat the company at their own game and mailed them a check for $0.00. The computer duly processed his account and returned a statement to the effect that he now owed the gas company nothing at all.

A week later, the man's bank called him asking him what he was doing writing a check for $0.00. After a lengthy explanation the bank replied that the $0.00 check had caused their check- processing software to fail.

The bank could therefore not process ANY checks from ANY of their customers that day because the check for $0.00 was causing the computer to crash.

The following month the man received a letter from the gas company claiming that his check had bounced and that he now owed them $0.00 and unless he sent a check by return mail they would be taking steps to recover the debt.

Oh that is hillarious and so true. That guy is just lucky it wasn't the IRS or they would have attached penalties along with the 0.00 debt.
Recently they cut our water off because we were one day late. Turns out there was another person in our neighborhood who was alot late so they cut us off intead of him. Then we had to pay to get it back on and no way to prove they goofed. How I found out this happened was when they supposedly turned it back on and I still couldn't ge water. They would send out a guy and he would report back that it was on. They actually got mad at me on the phone and threatened me with a service call on top of hook up if they had to come out again. I finally flagged down the truck as it was going by and found out they were going to the other guys address. Sure his water was on, he was a couple months late so they turned us off but we were a day late so we had no legal stand there. Bummer.

This is a true story. My mother in law had Motor Neurone disease and as a result lost the power of speech. She was still able to live in the retirement village with some help and some part time nursing care. She gave me power of attorney so that I could do all her banking, pay bills and any thing else that cropped up. She wrote me a note asking me to have her phone cut off as she wasn't able to use it anymore.
Knowing how tangled in red tape our Telecom can be I went to their branch office with my power of attorney in my pocket as proof that I was authorised to act on her behalf. The young lady behind the counter although sympathetic said I would have to speak to somebody in their head office and connected me on one of their phones. After being transfered three times and explaining the situation to each person I came to somebody who said they could do the disconnection for me. But I was floored by the next comment by the man on the other end "Just put your mother in-law on the phone so that she can tell me herself she wants it disconnected and we can do it right away." When I said that I had just told him she couldn't talk he passed me off to his supervisor, which I had been asking for since the first transfer. Finally I got the message through but not before I had to fax a copy of my power of attorney to prove I had the authority.

I guess these kind of things *can* happen. When they do, it takes a minor miracle to get things straightened out.

I get things in e-mail quite often that have a funny side (depending on which side you're on) to them. I have no idea if this actually happened, but it certainly *could*.

I have a son who is handicapped, but lives by himself. I called the phone company yesterday to have some services removed from his phone account. They asked me if I had authority to change his service. I told them I did, and that was the end of it.

Newton should have over paid

It is absolutly true that you have to think like the people that you are dealing with. Commone sense does not always work.

I would have sent in a check for $0.01 so that the bank could process it and then there would be a credit on the account.
