hi,
although your question is simple the answer is more difficult... were a country of almost 300,000,000 people streching 3000 miles .... the avg or median varies a great deal depending on location... plus the fact that the cost of living varies a great deal and that determine what the avg salary for a given state ....

in general, the avg is about 50,000 per the 2005 census.... however... the range between states varies from 35000 in the plain states to about 60-70,000 in the northeast or california ...

if your really interested just do a internet search... you'll find tons of sites that breaks income by states, counties, profession, hourly, etc etc....
