| | Selling used film cameras - suggestions I have a couple of old Nikon bodies (an FM and an EM) and three lenses, plus a bunch of filters. I got a quote from Adorama, and don't really have a benchmark to compare it to. They offered $165 cash or $180 store credit. (Surely their margins are higher than that!)
Here's what I sent them:
Item # Brand Condition Description
1. Nikon Excellent FM body w/case
2. Nikon Excellent FE body
3. Nikon Excellent Nikkor 50mm 1:1.8 lens w/Nikon L37 filter, cap
4. Nikon Excellent Nikkor 28mm 1:3.5 lens w/Nikon L1B filter, cap
5. Nikon Excellent Nikkor 135 mm 1:3.5 lens w/Nikon L37 filter, cap
6. Nikon Excellent + -2 eyepiece correction attachment
7. Nikon Excellent + K 1 -5 extension tubes for macro shots w/leather case
8. Nikon Excellent 52 mm Polar adj polarizing filter (also one by Cambron)
9. Hoya Excellent 80B and R(25a) blue/red filters
Anybody got a view on the quote or other places I should get a quote from?
Thanks,
Will |

| | | Re: Selling used film cameras - suggestions I have never had good luck setting reserve prices. Just start the bidding where you won't cry if it sells for that. You can check completed auctions of the same item you are selling to get an idea of what your item is worth. |

| | | Re: Selling used film cameras - suggestions I'd agree with all that. Go for ebay and maybe bundle a couple of things together to make an attractive package. I have found that no reserve generally works better. It can be nerve wracking but I generally find things pick up near the end of the auction. I had a Konica Auto S3 that I bought from a business that was unloading a bunch of gear. I got it for $10 with a bunch of extras and bundled everything together with an older flash from another friend and ended up getting about $175 for it. It really did pick up in the last few hours. Same thing with a few older lenses that I wasn't expecting to get much for. The last half hour of the auction they went through the roof... relatively speaking.
Just make sure you're straight up about the quality and condition and good pictures make for a good sale.
Good luck! |

| | | Re: Selling used film cameras - suggestions I recently sold my film equipment (35mm Nikons, 645 Mamiyas & 4x5 Sinar) through: usedcamerabuyer.com
Their quoted price was probably a bit less than I could have received on
eBay, but the hassle was less as well.

| | | Re: Selling used film cameras - suggestions Not really. Think of all the completely wacky things that are out there on ebay. There's a buyer for anything out there. Want to buy a stinky old sock? It's out there. Have a red paper clip you want to trade for a house? Somebody will do it.
There are lots and lots of film shooters out there. Lots of people still like film cameras--there's nothing wrong with them. |
