Hello from Phoenix

Hello all,

I am a keen (very) amateur photographer. I have been playing with an idea for my mother and father's birthday gifts this year. I have decided to make up a coffee table book (from Blurb.com) for them with all of their old pics of my brother and I. I am calling it "Two Little Boys" - despite us being in our 30's!!

Of course, now I have the challenge of restoring all of the scans of 110 and polaroid shots.

I have ordered 'Adobe Photoshop Restoration & Retouching' by Katrin Eismann to help me in this endeavor... but I am thrilled to have found an online forum that deals with this too.

I am looking forward to picking your brains!

Re: Hello from Phoenix

Sounds like a project that will be fun (and work) for you and a gift to be treasured by your parents forever. Hopefully, many of the photos will only need a little work, and give you time to work any require more time and effort.

Since it's a beautiful warm sunny day today in the Valley of the Sun, I hope you get out to enjoy it and work on your photos afterwards.

I think you'll find plenty of helpful info and folks here at RetouchPro, and Welcome to RetouchPro!

Re: Hello from Phoenix

Welcome, uk2! To help with your project (I feel for you) you might consider getting Ctein's book on digital restoration to supplement Eismann. He provides a lot of instruction on scanning for restoration purposes. I just finished reading Ctein and am inspired to try re-scanning photos I did years ago to see if they can be improved. Also have to discipline myself to avoid the painting-the-Golden-Gate Bridge syndrome (getting to the end of a project and starting it all over again). It's good you have a deadline!
