Re: What's your native language?

Hello to you all.

I was born Japanese, but I'm half Japanese and Thai. Speak Japanese from birth but moved to Thailand from age 5 until 19 where somehow I became more fluent in Thai than the birth language.

However, throughout my life studied American English in an international school from Kindergarten until finished high school. After that, happened to study a diploma and Bachelor living in Melbourne, Australia for about 5 years.\

To sum it up, my language is Japanese(birth language but least fluent), Thai, and English that happened to get mixed up at times with American and Aussie together.... :P (complicated isn't it???)

Re: What's your native language?

Hi everyone,

I'm new here! My native languages (or mother tongues, if you will) are Cantonese Chinese, Mandarin Chinese and Russian. It's hard being mixed, when you have to learn to speak at least the basics of your two native languages, both of which are considered among the world's hardest to learn.

Re: What's your native language?

Welp, I just joined. My native language is Murkan. I have a couple of degrees in Linguistics and you'd think that somebody like me would have a whole laundry list of languages to be fluent in. But nope. Learnt German in high school and still remember some of it, and learnt Japanese in college, and still remember a bit more of it. My wife's Chinese, and I've tried. Boy, I've tried. Lemme tell ya, Chinese is not an easy language. She puts me to shame. She speaks Chinese (Mandarin), Taiwanese (Min Nan), and of course, English. Her mother does her even one better -- she speaks Japanese too. Fortunately, beings that I'm a linguist of sorts and all, I insisted that our daughter become fluent in Chinese, and we were successful in achieving that goal. So even my daughter has one up on me.

Oh well. I even bought a copy of that way-too-expensive Rosetta Stone for Chinese so I really don't have any excuse.

Re: What's your native language?

Greetings from India + English is my 1st language. I find it quite amusing when I travel the world, people compliment me on my English. Helloooo....the British spent nearly 300 years in India... In fact I have trouble speaking in the vernacular languages.

+yes, English is a very weird + a difficult language to learn if its your second language with all its annoying absurd rules!!!

other languages that I speak or spoke once upon a time but have forgotten em: Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, French, Italiano.

Re: What's your native language?

In india you spoke a much more clear english then 99% of english, only speakers at BBC news speak a so clear english

...normally English and US never speak english , they mumble in English , theirs words come as if they were simulateusly munching a sandwich ,figure out what they say is usually hard as capture the last words whispered by a man dying for a asthma attack

BTW i am italian..i may speak english with everybody except of course GB citizens
