Re: What's your native language? I'm from South Africa orginally (now living in the United arab emirates). Home language is Afrikaans. I think the closest other language to it is Flemish and I can understand dutch and a teeny bit German too. Cannot speak any of those languages though.

Re: What's your native language? How about the clothes? I suppose you're not free to wear tee-shirts and such? I lived 4 1/2 years in Egypt a long time ago. I was quite free to do whatever I wanted but wouldn't go around wearing shorts or with uncovered arms as I didn't want the locals to pester me. Sylvia

Re: What's your native language? Lekkerstuk I thought you are afrikaans when I saw your screen name. In my language it says "yummy piece" as I am sure not far off in hollands. I was just mentioning that flemish is apparently the closest to afrikaans of any language. Sylvia, we wear regular western clothes, you can go without sleeves although I tend not to go too public without at least a cap sleeve (more about hiding fat arms than anything else though). Here the locals really are just like us. Its more the workers that might pester you but then I dont really walk around in labour camps etc. So they dont bother me.
