Re: What's your native language?

Hi all,
My native tongue is swahili, spoken widely across East Africa, there are perhaps over 100 different tribes in the region, so it's good to have a common tongue...

enjoying this great site.

Re: What's your native language?

I'm an Aussie (Australian), and despite what many believe, we do have a surprisingly good command of the English language. Well, at least most of us do. And there really is no need to type slower for me. We can read pretty fast too! lol.

Re: What's your native language?

I'm from South Africa orginally (now living in the United arab emirates). Home language is Afrikaans. I think the closest other language to it is Flemish and I can understand dutch and a teeny bit German too. Cannot speak any of those languages though.

Re: What's your native language?

Life here is pretty good actually. Its a safe environment to raise the kids. Many moms are at home too so there is playdates etc and everyone know each other. I love it.

Re: What's your native language?

How about the clothes? I suppose you're not free to wear tee-shirts and such?
I lived 4 1/2 years in Egypt a long time ago. I was quite free to do whatever I wanted but wouldn't go around wearing shorts or with uncovered arms as I didn't want the locals to pester me.

Re: What's your native language?

Lekkerstuk I thought you are afrikaans when I saw your screen name. In my language it says "yummy piece" as I am sure not far off in hollands. I was just mentioning that flemish is apparently the closest to afrikaans of any language.

Sylvia, we wear regular western clothes, you can go without sleeves although I tend not to go too public without at least a cap sleeve (more about hiding fat arms than anything else though). Here the locals really are just like us. Its more the workers that might pester you but then I dont really walk around in labour camps etc. So they dont bother me.

Then I can understand why you love it so much there, Brunilda. I don't think it would be as enjoyable if you couldn't live the way you want.

Re: What's your native language?

I'm from Germany and try to speak correct and fluent German
I'm also fluent in English and know a little French. Enough actually to have successfully taught two lovely old french women how to work the parking ticket machine. In France.
