How bizarre

I haven't been on here much lately, and what do I see when I pop in?

http://www.retouchpro.com/forums/mem...tml#vmessage68

Nice of my m8 (not) rondon to pop in just to call me a twit I would report the comment, but I found it rather funny. After spending the past 2 years brewing over it, I would have thought he could come up with something a little more imaginative than "Twit..." LOL

Anyway, hello all

Re: How bizarre

Hi chris, nice to see you again.

Haven't been around too much myself lately, life's kinda hectic at the moment.

As Craig said, nice site. Looks like you've been busy.

If this is a typo (The Photo Hosptial. Photography, restoration and repairs.) you might want to take care of it.

Re: How bizarre

Typo fixed m8, thanks
Site is a work in progress, as I've been busy with other work and website projects for others, over the last few months. It's only in the last few weeks that I've had chance to get on the net for myself.
Invested in a Nikon DSLR, and what a difference that made. Took some getting used to, but the pics are coming out quite nice now. I'll post a few up later, for people to pick at
Glad to see a few familiar names are still kicking about

Re: How bizarre

Hi Chris,

Nice camera, been looking at Nikons myself lately.

A friend got married recently, and one of the other guests had one that she let me have a play around with, I was suitably impressed by both the price and the performance.

Christmas is coming up soon, so I've been dropping ever so subtle hints as to what I want to find in my stocking (the missus drew the line at my first suggestion ).

Look forward to seeing any pics you care to post.

Re: How bizarre

I dropped lucky with mine, as I got the D40X for the D40 price £279 in Currys (sales guy gave me the wrong one, and I kept my gob shut). I got the kit 18-55 lens with it, then bought a 70-300 to give me that extra length for distance shots
D40X in now called the D60, and there is virtually no difference between them. I can't fault the Nikon build or image quality.

Re: How bizarre

I was impressed by the battery life of the one I got to play with (D40). It was used all day, took a lot of pics, and was still going strong when I left the evening reception party at about 11.30 pm.

The woman that owned it had the 18-55 lens as well (I take it that's the stock lens), produced really pin sharp images. Whole thing was pretty robust and easy to use, I liked it a lot.

Re: How bizarre

Yep, same battery in mine, in fact it's the same camera except mine's 10.2mp, where as D40 is 6.1mp.
I get on average 500 shots on a single charge, or around 350-400 with built in flash firing. I can leave it for weeks, and the battery still holds its charge.
The standard kit 18-55 lens is spot on, though feels a bit "plasticy" (if ya know what I mean). I bought the Tamron 70-300 tele/Macro for mine for £129.00, and it took it to a whole new level (for what I wanted it to do anyway).
If you can get one (D40, D40X or D60 or above), it's money well spent IMHO

Re: How bizarre

If I get one, I definitely want a 10M "back".

So the D60 looks like what I need Santa to drop in my stocking.

I'm not going skiing this year (long story, don't ask, I'm depressed enough already ) so the unspent holiday money should finance things nicely.

Of course I'm anticipating some resistance from the missus, who's no doubt got plans of her own for the cash.
