Re: More venting.

it's funny, politics is hard; leadership is easy. and that's the difference between what we have and what we want as citizens. we have politicians; we want leaders. that's kind of a sad situation.

government, if it followed one simple principle, could and would fix 90% of the woes in no time. the principle is this: you tend to get what you reward; you tend to not get what you penalize (mind you, i didnt say punish). just think about that one principle applied to our current government and the recent actions of that government and you begin to see some of what's going on and going wrong.

i mean, we treat our kids by this principle, for the most part, and we tend to treat our friends and employees this way and it's pretty workable. if government operated the same way, why, examine then the recent financial bailout and tell me whether it was a good thing or a bad thing.

now, i didnt mind the Chrysler loan years ago when lee iacoca was the head of chrysler. it was a loan and he paid it back in record time. chrysler went on successfully for years after. so, this wasnt a reward at all; it was a penalty. chrysler paid back more than they were loaned, if i remember correctly.

this is why communism and socialism will never work very well. it always rewards the wrong things and penalizes the wrong things, so you get more of the same and so goes the dwindling spiral of politics. this is also why income tax sucks so badly. you're penalizing earning. in fact, the more you earn the higher the percentage you pay. this is also why property taxes are wrong. you're penalizing folks for owning. in fact, if you're paying property taxes, you dont own; you're renting. and if you think i'm wrong just try not paying your property taxes for a while and see who ends up with your property.

this country is made up of individuals. the stronger the individual, the stronger the country. but, government doesnt operate that way. at least, this one doesnt. this one believes that the stronger government is, the stronger the country is. heck, they probably dont even think of it in those terms, but that's what the current practice amounts to. you could also just state it as greed.

so, i may not watch a lot of 'news' but trust me, i'm in no bliss here

Re: More venting.

I just don't understand why people think the government is there to solve everyone's problems. Government does not create wealth. Hard work, risk taking, entrepreneurship, by individuals does.

Government just doesn't have a very good track record running things like social security, veterans affairs, energy programs and all the rest. Why would anyone think they'd do any better at running a national health care program for example.

I just read an article where Congress passed a bill in 1996 that entitled military widows to keep 100% of all benefits for the full month of a spouses death. Come to find out, some dweeb didn't update the computer program and they didn't get paid. If they did, the government demanded the check back. If the check had already been cashed they garnished the widow(er)'s bank account!!! No telling how much is owed the spouses.... they guess millions.

The more we rely on the government the more we get screwed.

Re: More venting.

Government never is Dee Dee except they suppose to, Constitutionally, provide us with Defense and support infrastructure. All things else have been added over the years (most things been bad).

Craig; I too believe in the fair tax. We could then eliminate the IRS and all the graft that goes with it. The government will never give us it since they would loose too much power over the peons that we are.
