child hood songs/artists

quite often in other posts we post lyrics to songs /poems and today one was posted from my childhood ( tulips from amsterdam by Max Bygraves ) which took me to you tube to listen to it again and there i found many others which i had forgotten or not heard for decades

like
Gilly Gilly Ossenfeffer again sang by Max Bygraves ( mainly a uk artist who covered a lot of this sort of songs and was called Uncle Max)

Jake the peg ( not what we have always called it ?)
my boomerang wont come back
Tie me kangaroo down sport by Rolf Harris (Rolfy babe rules)

Puff the magic dragon by Peter Paul and Mary

anyone out there wish to share there childhood songs ?

i must admit to shedding a few tears mainly of joy though
and then i wonder what will my grandchildrens songs be when they are older with all the house/garage/rapping songs that are about now. Oh no it will be the crazy frog

Re: child hood songs/artists

'i know an old lady who swallowed a fly' was one i sang in a talent show back in grade school i recently saw a peter, paul and mary show on public broadcasting and they did that song on their show. i was quite surprised that it was still done the same way i had done years ago. they also did 'Puff', another old favorite there's lots of old greats out there somewhere... 'Farmer in the Dell', 'Old MacDonald' and there's another on the tip of my tongue that i cant quite get out; something about an old man and a banjo maybe? lol. i'll remember it in a few days

Kraig, I've got an MP3 of Beryl Ives singing "I Know and Old Lady" !

Here are some I remember

"Mare's Eat Oats, and Does Eat Oats and Little Lambs Eat Ivy"
"Abba Dabba Honeymoon"
"Teddy Bear's Picnic"
"Big Rock Candy Mountain"
"Go Tell Aunt Rhodey"
"This Old Man" (Knick-Knack, Patty-Whack)

Craig " I know a old lady " is one that we know over here as well and is still sung ( usually by grandparents )

Looking at your list Swampy i know about half of them again though i know knick knack but the next word is different ( wont put it as it may not be very pc in the world we live in now )

Craig just for you here is a you tube link for Davy Crockett

and here is a link for another one this time Terry Scott ( uk comedy actor) singing "my brother " enjoy

With removable handle!! And a beautiful solid Oak cabinet with little felt lined drawers for the needle storage and slots for storage of the 1/2 inch thick records below... the horn was just above the needle! lol
Compare that to an IPod... things have really changed over the years!

BTW... used to walk 5 miles to school in the snow and up hill both ways also!

I remember all your childhood songs and seeing as you`re a Rolf fan, can you remember The Court Of King Caractacus.

Re: child hood songs/artists

I love this link but I have not even heard of a few of the songs you mentioned so I am lookin' 'em up. I really don't have many in my vast memory but a couple for you.

" I had a dog __________? and Bingo was his name-oh, B I NGO, B I NGO, B I NGO and Bingo was his name oh."

"How much is is that doggie in the window?"

and my favorite of all and I even have it in my I-touch, "Winnie the Pooh, Winnie the Pooh, cuddly little fellow all stuffed with fluff."

As a kid I had crushes all the time, even as a young kid of 6 or so. I distinctly remember buying the 45 at the age of about 9 I guess and playing it for my "girlfriend". Little did I know what it meant, haha.
It was the Starland Vocal Band singing "Afternoon Delight". Good Lord look at the lyrics to that one. Little did I know but it wooed her just the same.

well i dont remember the first one at all but the other two yes
my grandkids have a play station with a game called singstar ( you hook mike's up and sing your heart out,)they love it and winnie the pooh is one of the songs they sing along too regularly

interesting choice of record for a 9 year old but i suppose you could claim innocence

The "pop" music ones i remember fondly ( mom and dads of course) are "bits and pieces" by the Dave Clark Five where you had to madly stamp your feet to the music ( often we were sent outside for that bit )

"Lets twist again" Chubby Checker and of course the trick was to see who could twist the longest

then there was the embarrassment of Dad walking down the road singing to you "i want to hold your hand " Beatles
