Well I installed IE8, and...

...of course I forgot my password (ie8 removed all cookies apparently). lol

The response process worked quite well here though and now I'm back and with a changed password. It's been well over a year since I last logged in, so forgive me for my half-heimers.

Re: Well I installed IE8, and...

I do like some of the security features and the tabbed crash isolation/recovery (if an IE tabbed view crashes, it won't take down your whole browser and trust me, I've see this too much with other IE versions). What I don't like is the delay you get when you launch a link to when it opens another IE Window. If you have a simple change page operation, that's not an issue, but if you click a link that opens up another window, then you get a huge delay (assuming it's scanning the security of that page). I hope this gets addressed soon. Still not going back now that I have IE7. I suspect that when the next security updates happen (in April) that it will be released for Automatic Updates.

i suspect that lag is the 'phishing' filter. unless you're browsing a lot of porn or warez sites, i wouldnt worry too much about phishing, but that's up to you, of course.

Re: Well I installed IE8, and...

You are probably right Craig about the Phishing settings, but I use Sandboxie for all my browsing; still not going to lower the browser security settings, so I will tolerate the delays (heck, I still use a Firewall and an Anti-Virus program, but Sandboxie is my main line of defense against the malware bugs; a Sandbox is just the way to go. IE8 does implement some Sandbox technology in the browser now (as mentioned ealier with respect to one tab not crashing the whole browser), but still not good enough imo.

lol; like I said Craig, all my problems but one have been solved. Sandboxie is to blame for the huge delay with opening alternate window when clicking on a link. I just hope an update for Sandboxie comes out soon or a work-a-round for it. We shall see. Will tolerate the delay for now since I won't browse without it.

i use winpatrol to keep things from attaching to i.e. works great and no bugs or slows. if anything tries to attach to i.e., winpatrol sends me an alert and asks if i want to keep it or not. if i dont, poof!

I still use Spybot and AVG, but you are not going to beat virtualization for stopping malware cold. Trust me; I fix PCs and have seen it all w.r.t. malware and have did some testing on my own of known (well known to me) bad sites and Sandboxie stopped them cold (yes, I had a backup image of my drive before testing; lol). I was so impressed with it that I paid these guys $30+ for it with no regrets and many of you know I don't purchase things that loosely. lol
