Credit/Debit card fraud

There was some talk recently about security problems with internet explorer. I'm not sure if that was the problem or not, but someone got my wife's debit card number. There was a charge of $36.19 that we didn't use the card for. A trip to the bank, and a call by customer service found that it was charged to an adult website, and the e-mail address given at the site was "joker@hot-shot.com". I'm sure this wasn't due to a problem with my donation to this site because I used my card, which has a different number than hers. The purchase was made from PGGLOBAL in Seoul, Korea. So you might want to be on the lookout for something like that.

Thanks Ed for the warning. Dave looks over our card bills when he pays bills. You were lucky it was so low before you caught it. Sometimes you get bills in the thousands before you realize it. I always use the secure line when paying on line. But there is no guarantees these days.
So what are you having to do to correct this? Reissue a new card? Glad things didn't get too out of hand for you.

It was simple enough. We are being reimbursed for the $36.19, and she will be issued a new card. The old card has been zapped from working. My card is still okay, so there's not much of an inconvenience.

Things like that are one of the reasons I NEVER EVER buy anything online with a credit or debit card. (Heck, I won't even put my real email addy anywhere online!) And it's getting so much harder to do since you can get nearly anything via computer just by sending your CC# out into the great void...

But I just have this VERY icky feeling about those numbers floating around out there somewhere in cyberspace.

That's really worrying, Ed. I get around the problem by having a 2nd card, with a low credit limit, which I use exclusively for Internet purchases. When I buy something, I just transfer the necessary funds.
