Re: Ambrotype Mold

Hi: I may have already sent this through as I hit a button I didn't intend to...I am a REALLY New member. I was hoping someone could tell me if Spider Mold (I think that is what it is called) is removable or at least stoppable. In the Spring, I bought a terrific, CA 1854-55 Ambrotype of a Frontiersman from Cowan's auction. I hadn't seen it first hand and while they mentioned "spidering" I had no idea of what that meant. When you look at it straight on, you see what looks like branching ... sort of like a cactus, but if you alter the angle, you don't ..Copies can be made from it, but I am concerned that the spidering will eventually destroy the image. I am a beginning collector of CDV's, Dags, Tintypes and Ambrotypes, and preservation of these images is uppermost in my thoughts. Does anyone know of a way to save and preserve this ambrotype? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Joanne

Re: A Welcome Note To Newbies

Hello everybody! I just signed up/in a few minutes ago--a total newbie. I will be teaching a basic digital photography class to people with disabilities at an adult evening school, and I hope I can draw on everyone's experience and knowledge to make it a great experience for the students. I've been a working pro for 30 years and think I know a bit about photography (such as survival), but I am brand new to the teaching game and look forward to soliciting help as this plays out starting in January.

Are we allowed to post our web sites, or is this not done here?

Post away, as long as you're not linking to anything which may be of "questionable" taste (in which case post a warning).

Good luck with your classes, have fun teaching.

Re: A Welcome Note To Newbies

Hello all. I am a newbie to this site, after exploring it looks like the place I have been searching for as I have a ton of old photos that I would love to run through my Photoshop CS2 but I am only a novice at using the program. I hope to be an active member of the community.

Re: A Welcome Note To Newbies

Hi Jak,
I'm a newbie here with retouchpro. This is a great site to find new and different techniques from other professionals. I've been in the graphic arts/premedia industry now for about 5 years and have been doing professional high-end retouching for about 2 years with my currrent company. I believe that one should never stop learning and I hope to gain more knowledge through my peers from this site. And at the same time give some in return. Thanks.
Best regards,
Don

Re: A Welcome Note To Newbies

Hello, Jak and crew!

I wanted to say 'hello' -- first post here, newbie almost all-around compared to any pro; photography and, of late, retouching and restoration < 1 year; day job is consulting.

Looking forward to learning; I'll lurk quite a bit and ask a few questions.

BTW, good-looking forum and content.

My only restoration project to date:
