What is USM abbreviation

HI . Is there someplace here in RP (RetouchPRO ) that explains what abbreviations mean when found in a thread . I have a problem understanding some tut's when they are used . As an example usm . I know it makes typing faster , unfortunately I for one miss out on what is being explained .

Also look http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unsharp_masking
"Unsharp masking (USM) is an image manipulation technique, often available in digital image processing software. It was first used in Germany in the 1930s as a way of increasing the acutance, or apparent sharpness, of photographic images.[citation needed] The "unsharp" of the name derives from the fact that the technique uses a blurred, or "unsharp," positive to create a "mask" of the original image.[1] The unsharped mask is then combined with the negative, creating the illusion that the resulting image is sharper than the original. From a signal-processing standpoint, an unsharp mask is generally a linear or nonlinear filter that amplifies high-frequency components."
