HJSplit, how to use it?

Hey people, I'm having here lot of splitted files (.001; 002; etc) but after joining all of them, the file hasn't an extension, so I cannot open it. I already had this problem before and solved it but cannot remember how I did it. Any tip?

Thanks,

Mart

Do you just need to add the extension?
On a PC right click the file name, click rename, add the .jpg (or whatever the extension is), enter.
A Mac should open it without the extension name.

Forgot to write that I added the extension I thought should be there, 'cause I'm almost sure it's an ISO file, but didn't work. The Mac also didn't opened with or without extension.

Oh, yes. I love that one too. It took me 3 days to do it but mostly because the slow PC with 32-bits. Never used 64 on Windows, too unstable and incompatible with the modem, but bought a MacPro some months ago

If it's an ISO file it is a Disk image and would need to be burnt to a CD or DVD.

Re: HJSplit, how to use it?

on Mac you can open a terminal and mount your iso file to the folder you will create:

- create a folder in your home directory
- open your terminal and write this:

mount -o loop disk1.iso new_folder

where disk1.iso suppose to be the name of your file and new_folder the name of your new folder.

Then you can try to open the folder. I hope it will work like this as I did no try it before - I use a terminal window ...

i seem to recall the earlier thread, but not what was done or where it is. but, i dont think it was in the salon. i think it was in the hardware or mostly likely, the software forum. i'd do a search there for words like 'extension', 'iso', and anything else that might be appropriate.

If you are using a Mac try Filetyper to reassign format
http://www.frederikseiffert.de/filetype/
or
Graphic Converter
http://www.lemkesoft.com/
If you need to know anything about a file extension go here
http://filext.com/

Re: HJSplit, how to use it?

those files are hj split files. You can download the program from here its free.
http://www.freebyte.com/hjsplit/#win32
once downloaded install the program. after install move all the 00x files into a separate folder (for ease of use). Run HJ split choose the join command, I will ask for the first file, browse to the folder with the files and choose the 001 file open and then click on start. it will join the files together and add the extension appropriate for the file. its pretty easy to use. Its similar to rar files or multi zip files. the extension is embedded in the file.
