A Bayesian Approach to Digital Matting

Before I launch into the post, Mods please move if a better location other than Salon is found, I was unsure as it is most definitely heavy duty Photoshop

Came across this site on a random browsing session A Bayesian Approach to Digital Matting It has a fairly heavy duty technical explanation of the approach attached in an interesting PDF. Not being so technically minded myself it's all pretty much above me, but I thought I would share this post to see if any of you 'under the hooders' were interested.

Still I know enough to see that it looks interesting

Re: A Bayesian Approach to Digital Matting

Maybe I missed something, but it seems to be heavy on the math and theory, but lacking in practical application. I failed to see a link that told how, specifically, they came about making their example masks.
Put me on Mike's side of the room.

Re: A Bayesian Approach to Digital Matting

On first glance it appears the logic would be to make the best mask you find the most contrast (color, luminosity) between the subject and the background and then exploit that difference

that's how I understood it
