i'm a sucker for american idol and america's got talent. so, i watched tonight as they had the youtube auditions on stage. the last one on was a young girl of 10 years. her name was jackie evancho. i went to youtube just now to get a link so you could hear. this isnt quite as good a quality as was on the tv but it'll give you an idea of the quality of her voice. utterly amazing!

now, i've also seen a bit of britain's got talent and well remember paul potts and that other woman that came later who was also a singer. instant successes and really quite good. but, this little ten year old is ... how do you put it, a 40 year old in a 10 year old's body. utterly astounding! here's one link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0et5xcXvQns

We had a young welsh girl a few years ago ( not on idol shows though) she has made quite a few albums and is still around, but singing more pop style now

Charlotte Church is known here as well. Hadn't heard Ms. Evancho - lovely tones. It is surprising to hear these "children" sing with such mature voices, but children's choirs, especially the boys' choirs have always been popular, so I guess there are lots of kids with wonderful voices. So many great performers started at an early age, especially when vaudeville was still popular.
**Note: Obviously, from the number of views this post received in a short time, there are a LOT of Jackie Evancho fans out there!!!

There were a couple of quite young singers making records when I was kid - Brenda Lee (who had been singing in shows since the age of 9 or before) and Dodie ... something. Different type of voice and song style, but very good voices.

yes, some definite similarities to charlotte, but 10 years old? man, that's just amazing for 10 years old i'd say this girl is the hands down favorite to win america's got talent this season.

Well, at first when I saw the video I thought it was fake, but then I saw another one of her videos, and I have to say, this girl is amazing. At 10, it is an incredible talent... Bless her

yes, several others were saying it was a lip sync and claimed they could see a slight difference between the audio and her lip motions, but the producers are swearing it's not lip synced and the videos on youtube bear it out also. but, i can understand their doubts... that voice coming from a 10 year old is pretty incredulous. but, it is hers

I didn't see Jackie semi-final performance live on television but next day on Youtube. I watched video at least 10 times and still couldn't believe my eyes and ears.

She has an amazing voice, beautiful smile and she is very self-confident. I would say amazingly confident for 10 year old girl.

About her chances on final:

Main competitor will definitely be Fighting Gravity. Fighting Gravity ideas is not that new as many believes. You can check for the same idea here: youtube.com/watch?v=4Dv13HOn4xY on many other related videos as well.

So they are just doing things differently but Jackie is really a talent!

yes, fighting gravity is good. sort of a cross between blue man group and circ de-soleil (sp?). this has definitely been the best season for talent. those last two tuesday nights have been pretty amazing. i still think jackie will win it, though.
