Beware of "Facebook" links

I received a message seemingly originated from Facebook (although on close look it did come from gmail address) with the following text

>>Amy Davis commented on your photo.
To see the comment thread, follow the link below:
http://www.facebook.REM/n/REM?photo...02894.23363.REM
Thanks,
The Facebook Team

(Note that I disabled the link by deleting some of the symbols and adding REM instead)

I did post a few photos on my Facebook page recently.
The link actually took me to an entirely different web site that tried to upload a virus

Apparently, no matter how kosher the link looks, you still can be diverted elsewhere....

Thanks for sharing! Just out of curiousity, did you go directly to your facebook page and check to see if someone had actually commented? I ask because it is not always a link that leads to this kind of activity. It could have been by other means, and the facebook email was just coincidental.

I did check and sure enough, I didn't see the comment on my page. What makes me puzzled is the fact that the link looked completely legit: facebook.com/ followed by a long string. And yes, the link takes you to an entire different domain, not facebook, so that is not a random glitch of anti-virus soft. Look to me as if facebook page have been somehow set up to re-direct.

Re: Beware of "Facebook" links

Coincidentally, I received a similar email today from a "young lady" who was just SO eager to meet me on Facebook. Of course, the email was deleted without following the embedded link or replying.
