Fountain of Youth in a Pill.

Saw this on the news earlier. Not for women planning on having babies though (related to thalidomide). We have a lot of old farts who frequent here so I want to see you all healthy and for a very long time.

Re: Fountain of Youth in a Pill.

Yes, but Thalidomide has recently been repackaged as a drug for men; believe helps with Prostate cancer but not 100% sure (and am too lazy to look it up right now). Again, a gender specific drug, but believe might be beneficial for those not planning on having kids. As for lenalidomide, if it helps the elderly (even people in their 40s and up) stay healthy, then I say take it. I'll be a willing guinea pig.

Interesting indeed, and I hope that it proves to be worthwhile and safe. I, however, could make better use of Star Trek's Dr. McCoy with his tricorder.

Hadn't remembered that incident, and thankfully, don't need it (at least, not now). If we can keep from blowing each other up, hopefully that type of medical treatment will be possible someday.

It was from the Movies version CJ where they went back into the past to get a whale. Forgot the name of this movie version (and too tired to look it up right now).

Re: Fountain of Youth in a Pill.

I remembered it AFTER I looked it up - as in "oh, yeah, now I remember that."

Speaking of memory (or lack of it), "60 Minutes" ran a story on 6 people who show extraordinary memories - superior autobiographical memory. You can tell them a date, and they can remember the day of the week it came on, and then describe IN DETAIL what they did that day - including the news of the day they were aware of, the clothing they and other people they saw were wearing, the conversations they had, the sports activities they watched (one guy described the plays from a football game held decades earlier and CBS showed the footage which matched his description), and other details of life. I wouldn't even be able to say what day of the week that day was, let alone remember what I and other people did - unless it was a very special event. Scientists are studying their abilities trying to see if there is something physical (their brain scans were different) or what the reason might be for the differences. Fascinating to see them reeling off memories of days long since past as if they had just happened. I can't remember what a friend wore last Friday for lunch. At that lunch, my friend and I pieced together some memories of former co-workers and incidents that happened years ago -she would remember one thing that would remind me of something else or she would remember a first name and then I would remember the last name - but even together, we were no match for the super autobiographical memory folks (who include the actress Marilu Henner from "Taxi").
