What Non-Photo Software Are You Good With?

After spending this past week mucking about with video codecs and compression, and teaching myself Premiere I found myself wishing more than once I had someone knowledgeable I could turn to.

I've found myself in that similar situation for many different areas, so I thought it might be nice if we "came out" about other software or digital area we have some experience with.

Besides stuff for photos, what other areas of digital production are you at least comfortable with?

hmmm... wouldn't quite say comfortable with, but I've played with a lot of music programs and apps over the years. oddly perhaps, the one I liked the best was deluxe music III way back in my amiga 2000 days.

I'm spending more and more time learning and working with ScreenFlow. You might check it out Doug, pretty nice but probably too 'basic' compared to Premier.

Besides photography I also enjoy music, so I have become pretty good at audio editing (both two-track and multitrack), for fun of course. This involves both improving existing recordings and dabbling making my own.

Here's a backing track I wrote and recorded with Apple's Garage Band. No singers or instruments were harmed in the process – it's all digital loops and fx!. My song actually has lyrics, but even software cannot help me with that...

Here's another version of the same song also done in GB but with me playing live guitar (overdubbed).

I use Inkscape for any non-photo design purpose. It's a killer-app for me, useful for so many things.
