| | | Cookies anyone? I decided to get rid of all the cookies I didn't want, and I found there were well over 400 on my hard drive since last January. I decided to make my options for privacy a little higher. Then I found out that when I visited sites, there were all kinds of places wanting to place cookies on my machine. Many of these didn't even have any apparent connection with the site I was visiting. I was even surprised at the number of cookies being used from this site (although they were all from RetouchPro). I think there was a cookie placed every time I went to a new thread, whether or not I was replying to something. I know a lot of these cookies are supposed to be deleted when I finish my visit to a site, but many of them aren't. Now I'm careful who I allow cookies from. Oh well, guess I won't get hungry for a while.

| | Check out Guidescope ( www.guidescope.com). I use it and love it. It's got great cookie control, blocks referer information, blocks ads...
Its cookie control lets you choose what sites can set cookies without being intrusive or popping up a dialog box everytime a site tries to set a cookie. |

| | Thanks for the link Jak. I'll check it out.
Mike,
I might be one of the odd balls, but I don't want to be liberated!

I use Windows XP myself, so I have long given up any illusion of data privacy on a PC connected to the internet. |

| | | I'm also using Windows XP. I wonder if Guidescope is compatible with XP? It looks like a very useful program. There's no mention of XP on the site, although Windows 2000 is mentioned as being compatible.

| | | If it is compatible with W2K - XP should also work. They use the same kernel.
Not proabably 100% accurate, but a good rule of thumb. |

| | | I thought anything that was compatible with Win 2000 would work with XP. But there are exceptions aren't there?

| | | Thanks Toad. I thought there *could* be a problem, but I didn't know it was more likely to happen with hardware.
