Selection method in PSP 8 or 9

I'd like to select the sky to "multiply it" to chivvy this pic up a bit. I can select the contigous area OK but I presume there is some way I can select all of one colour (within an appropriate range) and promote the selection to a layer - something I've just started to use.

Cheers!
Simon

Choose Select > Color Range, then choose Black Matte and the "+" eye dropper.

Click on various areas of the sky until you have what you want. Your selection is easy, so it will take only a few seconds to get good quality with all the sky between the leaves in there.

PS: Oops! I misread. I thought you meant Photoshop. I don't use PaintShop Pro so I can't help . Sorry.

Hi Simon-

I am stuck in my PSP 7 (lame I know, but it's like that comfy old pair of shoes I can't stop wearing). I have 8, and use it sometimes, but I go to File>Workspace>Load>PSP7. This will bring up the default PSP 7 workspace and also "magic wand" in the tool bar to the left which seems to be missing in 8 (at least I haven't found it). I use that along with the settings you see above the photo to select the sky. I found it easier on this photo to use the brightness rather than Hue or Color. I hope this helps.

I am sure there is someway to do it without loading the new workspace, but you can switch back and forth quickly.

Cheers guys.

I used the magic wand in PSP 9 as suggested (I am sure I saw it in 8). I think the main thing I missed was the contigous option! I then promoted selection to layer and choose new adjustment layer, levels, and multiply with an opacity of 30-40. After three or four multiplies the result was
