Diffuse Glow Filter Misbehaving Pshop Cs2

Quite a few times I've gone to use the diffuse filter in photoshop CS2 and intsead of bringing out a nice white glow, end I end up with a BLACK mess where the glow should be? Any idea why this may be happening?

I've opened up an image from scratch, applied the filter, and it works, but later on in my work flow, something has stuffed up and the glow is going 'black'..

Any ideas?

What is your background color when you go to apply the Diffuse Glow?

Diffuse Glow uses the BACKGROUND color as its glow color. Set the background to white and all is OK.
