Went from 5.5 to CS2, so I will probably wait a little while; maybe CS5. lol

CS3 is a must have for me Sooooo many new toys and I keep reading people saying that CS3 is faster than CS2 on the same hardware. I've been playing with CS3 beta and LOVE it! If I had to pick just one reason to get CS3 I think it would be 'smart filters'. I've been wishing filters worked this way for YEARS!

Black and White conversion
Advanced black-and-white conversion is now simpler and faster. With the new Black and White adjustment, one button analyzes the image and offers conversion settings. Fine-tune your image with simple sliders that control the conversion of each color. Click and drag any portion of any image to adjust the corresponding tonal range (for example, click and drag on a red car to lighten or darken all red tones).

The improved Channel Mixer adjustment includes new black-and-white presets, the ability to save your own settings as presets for reuse later, and the new Total indicator that keeps you informed on the total percentage contribution from all three color channels.

So it appears to be an adjustment layer, but I have yet to see that specific term used in any of the articles I just surfed. Perhaps someone who has installed the beta will confirm.

Nice tweaks to Channel Mixer, too.

Like you I don't leap on every upgrade. Went from 5.5 to 7; passed on CS, CS2. Just now upgrading from W2K to XP, so OS-wise I'll be ready for CS3 when it ships.

6. Black-and-White Conversion Control
Not only did Adobe add a better tool for converting from color to black & white, not only did they give you built-in presets, not only did they give you built-in tinting and the ability to leave the dialog box and click-and-drag within an area of your photo that corresponds with the color sliders in the Black-and-White control, bless Adobe’s little pixel-lovin’ heart; they made it an Adjustment Layer. Life just got better.
