Software Photoshop, Paintshop Pro, Painter, etc., and all their various plugins. Of course, you can also discuss all other programs, as well.

Re: Plugin (link): Bas-Relief, Redfield plugins emboss like

I have an Intel iMac in order to get away from the PC and it's problems. I redid my old PC and gave it to my wife. It really is a shame that developers chose to develop Photoshop plugins, etc. for one platform or the other. If I have to use Bootcamp or Parallels in order to run a plugin then it's not for me.

Gerry: I moved your comment to a forum where it will get better visibility. djr

I can see how this thing would be frustrating.

I would speculate in Win version, no Mac version situations it's a matter of cost to develop/support vs. potential sales plus what comparable Mac products are already on the market. In other words is the reward worth the risk, a question typically answered by market research.

For a one-man (literally) operation like Redfield Plugins it's probably a matter of John not having the tech expertise to develop on both platforms.

Good luck on the Mac-Intel transition.

Re: Plugins that work only under Windows, not Mac-OS

In the specific case of Redfield, I see that he removed as much of "Photoshop API" stuff as only possible, and is using Windows API and his own code approach rather than clumsy Adobe SDK one. That means that rewriting his plugins for Mac will take, err, *rewriting*, not merely starting compiler on a different computer. And similar things apply to many other developers.

Plus, take into account that under Windows, we have not only Photoshop, Fireworks and Painter but also PaintShop Pro and other Win-only image editors capable to run the plugin. That means practically doubling the possible market.
