Lucis art LucisArt alternative?

Hello all. after seeing some stuff created using the Lucis Art Photoshop plugin I went to their site to download it...yowser$$$$$$$$$

Any tutorials or cheaper alternatives??

I've in the past been able to do similar stuff using the unsharpen to weird limits..sample:
Amount: 180-250
Radius: 5-8
Threshold: 0-1

Then blend the modes the layers.

LucisArt is quite unique in what it does. If you're able to duplicate a particular narrow point along its spectrum of effects by some other means, it'll still be more work than just running the plug-in ;-). It's the old time vs. money debate.

As for the cost, discounts are available.

GIMP's ACE (adaptive contrast enhancement) filter can mimic some of the lucis effects that I've seen. Like GIMP, this plugin is free too. Can be found here.
