Angry Help with Upgrade reinstallation

I am totally frustrated with Adobe right now. Years ago, I purchased a copy of Adobe 6. In the past few years, I upgraded to Adobe CS. I have the Adobe CS case, but apparently forgot to register the version 6 copy. About two days ago, my CS would get almost all the way through the loading process and would freeze up on me. I tried rebooting several different ways and restarting, unplugging, etc., and nothing worked. So I uninstalled my CS version and went to reinstall it with my disk. Only problem is, now my computer found no previous version, so refused to allow me to upgrade. Any suggestions? Anyone have a really old version of Adobe they want to sell cheap?

Thanks in advance. Please feel free to e-mail direct at ride2win@cox.net

Re: Help with Upgrade reinstallation

I called Adobe and they said that unless I could give them the original serial number for the old version, they couldn't do anything. Since that version was purchased so many years ago, and I've been using CS for the last two years and we've moved twice since then, I do not have the old serial number, only the one for my CS version. They basically told me "tough luck."

Yes, that is true. You'd need the serial number. Even buying an old version won't help you unless the owner never registered it or used it to upgrade (upgrading "retires" the original serial number).

Re: Help with Upgrade reinstallation

But I don't have to register the old version, do I? I have the newer CS serial number and disk registered to me, and when I uninstalled it, I used the option that said I wouldn't have to re-register it. I just need the older version so that the upgrade "finds" a previous edition. Or am I mistaken?

Re: Help with Upgrade reinstallation

You have to activate CS online, where all the reg numbers get checked. In fact, CS was the version where Adobe started using online activation. If it fails activation it will disable itself after 30 days.

On a brighter side, this is an excellent excuse to purchase Photoshop CS3. If that's out of the question, amazon.com has Photoshop CS2 new in box for $300 (don't lose the registration number).

Re: Help with Upgrade reinstallation

I just upgraded to CS 3 awhile back. Placed it on my desktop, but also got a new laptop a couple of weeks ago. It did not need to "find" the CS 2 version, but I did need to enter the old serial CS 2 number when prompted since my CS 3 was an upgrade version. (my laptop was new and CS 2 was never installed on it, so it didn't need CS 2, just the CS 2 serial number)
