Only one (very bad) experience and a lot of (very bad) rumors.

Use gotomypc.com instead. The one person I tried to help with pcanywhere switched to gotomypc.com and they love it.

Doug,
What about Windows Remote Assistance? I've never tried it, but it looks interesting as described in Help. Just curious...

Like you, I've never tried WMA. But my sister works with gotomypc literally everyday, loves it, and she can't even set up her email client on her own.

Re: Symantec PCAnywhere

Typically, you have to open a port in your router for PCanywhere or Remote Desktop to work. Otherwise, the router is doing it's job keeping you out, not knowing it's you.

For Remote Desktop, the port number is 3389 that needs to be opened. Not sure about PCAnywhere, but it may be the same. Since you can access ok on your own LAN, your software firewall is not the issue.

I use Remote Desktop all the time and think it's much better than the other two. But that's just me. Of course, if you have WinXP Home, this is not an option. Only Pro has it.

Re: Symantec PCAnywhere

i think that I got the port issue, b/c i just can't log in to my router setup...
it give's me invalid user/pass whe i try to log in (user :admin and nothing for pass)...
However i find out about this very easy to setup and completely free Logmein www.logmein.com, will use this during my holiday, and go to cable interenet with static IP, afterwards...
this will solve alot of my issues....

Thanks a lot...

I used VNC (http://www.realvnc.com/) for years. It's rock-solid and it's free.
